Just thought I would share my bonehead move for everyones enjoyment/education.

I was checkin out what I thought was a battery draw on my B6100. It turned out to be a charging system issue. In the process of narrowing it down, I disconnected the charge lead from the regulator, and got about 3 volts there at max RPM. Next step was to disconnect the dynamo leads and check that. I couldn't get my meter leads on them too well so I tried pulling them up thru the top of the dash and forgot about the live charge lead from the battery. It ground out on the fuel tank straps. A couple sparks and alot of smoke later, I reached over, shut off the key and shut down the engine but it was too late. The damage was done and I burned up part of the wiring harness.

I've got 12 years behind me in the automotive field, 4 years of tech high school for electronics, and my father is a licensed electrician. I have a deep understanding/respect for electricity, but a few seconds of not thinking with my dip stick, could have cost me a tractor, a shed and many many thousands of dollars of tools and other equipment sitting in it.

Be safe out there everyone.

If anyone's interested it's a bad regulator I replaced 8 months ago.. Hopefully Kubota has some kind of warranty on them.

At least your still able to share it with us, could have been much worse.
That's for sure, would have ruined my Jack and Jill this weekend and the weeding to follow!

Wish I realized what happened a little sooner, probably could have saved some smoke by shutting the key off sooner. The majority of the damage I'm pretty sure is limited to just the one wire but I need to get the dash off and dig into it before I know for sure.

I feel your pain, as Bill Clinton would say. We've all been there at some point in time. Glad the worst case scenario didn't happens.
