Hey guys and gals. I picked up a used 1860g mower. I knew buying it, it had issues.
If you put power directly to the starter the mower turns over, but won’t start.
from the key, I get dash lights, but won’t turn over. Replaced starter and solenoid. Checked power lines to the starter, and have proper power. But key yeilds no turn over of starter. Thoughts?

Ok! Good start. Now I know there’s one on the dash needs to be pushed in. One in the seat. Can they be Bypassed to determine what switch has the issue?

The Kawasaki engine is stopped by the key switch grounding the magnetos on the engine and also the fuel cut off solenoid on the carb stops fuel flow.

When you are jumping the starter and the engine turns over, do you have the key switch ON.

Coke would need to be ON for the engine to fire.

Check for spark at plugs when you have the engine cranking. If you cannot get it to run by applying power to the starter there is no point in trying to identify a safety switch problem.

Yes. Key on, power direct to starter, turns over doesn’t run.

Very new to small engines and even newer to Kubota. Mind what’s a stop solenoid?
It is a needle that extends to close off the fuel to the carb. It is retracted at key on(or supposed to).
It resembles a silver barrel under the carb bowl. One wire is attached. It will make an audible click when it is retracted.

Ok, that’s not occurring either.

First you need to find out where the safety switches are. Usually one or two in the seat. I don’t think that there will be one on the dash so please explain what you said about that.

If there’s a clutch or brake pedal that has to be pushed down to start there will be a safety switch involved and there may be one involved in the mower blade (on or off) pto system.

Do you have any owners manual or a repair manual? The owners manual will outline the starting process and the repair manual will provide test process.

To test switches is basically find switch, see if it opens and closes electrically when the switch is manipulated

No manual. Snagged this thing used. As far as the dash is concerned, when I turn the key the dash lights up. So I know we have power that far. When I turn the key, nothing happens. Starter doesn’t engage, no solenoid click, nothing. There’s a button that has to be pushed in on the dash for it to start, and it is engaged.

I am having a similar problem. Father-in-law said he heard a loud pop, then engine shut down. No spark or gas at the plugs, put new plugs in. Replaced fuel soleniod and voltage regulater. No fire , or lights. 40amp slow fuse checks good as well as switch under the seat. Checked the old fuel soleniod , pin does not retract, I can push it in and it stays, remove power and it extends, does not retract on the new one either. Fuel soleniod prevent spark at the plugs? Parts are aftermarket.

When installed the fuel shutoff solenoid pin is restrained in slightly pressed in position. So bench testing fully extended may be out of its range to self retract. You will find if it’s held in slightly it will retract with power.

Okay, thanks. The plugs not getting 'wet' when cranking. Will take carb and check bowl and floats. I will check some other things this afternoon about the no fire to plugs issue.
