Strong b7200 with weak L1640 loader

I'm not sure if it's weak really. I'm just coming off bigger machines. Tractor runs fine, but the loader not so much.

My oliver, ferguson, and bobcat loaders had some crazy breakout force with the buckets, but I feel like my b7200 struggles.

I can run into manure piles, scoop, lift, dump, all well and good. I have agressive teeth on my bucket. But if I dig into the clay soil, I try to curl and it just doesn't want to break up the soil. On my bigger machines, my curl is my strongest function by far. But the little kubota can barely break up the compacted clay.

Is it just the machine limits, or should I be doing better?

I believe that's a B1630/B1640 loader and hydraulic relief pressure is factory set @1500 PSI. Combine that with two 1.5" bore/1" rod cylinders and you wind up with a biscuit under 3000 lbf. In other words the loader is a weakling. Those silly big ass teeth that somebody added also reduce the mechanical advantage in the bucket geometry further compounding the inherent lack of breakout force. In short the B1630 is not designed for digging and the teeth made it worse.

Yeah I'd loose the teeth first, but really it's a big bucket on a small tractor that is not designed for digging. I'm thinking that may be the best you're going to get out of it.

You are experiencing the limits of a small machine that was never intended to dig, and especially not in clay.

I put those silly teeth on :D

The teeth do help me get into the dirt a bit where the flat blade just doesn't do it. For the most part I'm turning manure, and the teeth do help me get into it as opposed to just the flat blade.

Next week though I'm going to do some work on my mothers garden and it's a good amount that needs done, including removing an island with rotting wood, rocks, mulch, and clay. It's a good amount of work that needs done.

I figured you for the teeth 😊 The teeth help with penetration but thar does you no good if you cant break out the bucket. I owned and used a B7200 with that loader for 30+ years. I asked it to do things it was never designed for including some digging in rocky soil. Even without the teeth I split the bucket. You are expecting too much.

I’d bring one of your bigger machines for that, or get used to that little loader not having the power needed for the work.

My ferguson just sold, i blew up my bobcat, and my oliver is the size of a battleship. So unfortunately those are out.

I am beating my little kubota but it is holding up. I added 250lb of suitcase weights on the back to help keep it down.

I would kill for some wheel spacers, maybe 1.5" on the back. It would make a huge difference. But I haven't been able to find something reasonably priced.

I'm nearly done, just about to hit it with my grading blade on the b8200.

Wheel spacers are great, but they aren’t gonna turn a small machine into an effective digging tool.

Good luck.

I'm still on board with removing the teeth. You know your terrain and your situation the best but I am firmly convinced that you will get more digging power without.

Can always put them back on if you think you need them for moving manure.

A B7200 does not need wheel spacers to widen the rear wheels. It is equipped with adjustable wheel hubs. Remove a rear wheel and look at the hub. It is adjustable with different positions along the axel.

I seem to remember that, i replaced a hub about 20 years ago. I will try that. Thanks!

Bet that loader is moving around quite a bit on the tractor without the front bolts being in it.

I always wondered what went there. THey've been missing since my father bought it ages ago. I'll stick some bolts and see if things stabalize a bit.

I will see if I can get you some better pictures of the mounting points. I am not sure what NIW is highlighting. I don't recall anything bolting to that cross tube. IIRC the loader bolts to the sides of the engine cradle, mid transmission, and rear axle housing. There are also two diagonal braces for the loader posts that appear to be present in your picture.

The tractor has a hex bar rear axle and you can set the rear wheels really wide. You need to keep the adjustable hubs tight or you WILL wallow the hubs/axles out. Not sure if replacement hubs or axles are still available.

My apologies to @North Idaho Wolfman for doubting him. I should know better  I pulled out the manuals and there are several different subframes. It looks like you have the B1640 quick detach variant and that does have two "speciial" L-bolts that fit in those holes. Parts pages below.
