Just got the new Princess Auto flyer , saw they have trailer fenders on sale, $39.99 so I wondered what's the sale price....
That IS the sale price !!!
glad I was sittin down !
I had to check the catalogue and the regular price is $74.99 EACH !!!
PreChineseCV19 , I paid $19.99. Have 4 in the shop...that's $350+ in today's money, gulp,gasp, holyhanna
Over $50 EACH increase.....
I usually make 1-2 trailers a year but will have to rethink a selling price.......

Ouch!

Last night I was looking for a 6 foot piece of threaded rod I had kicking around..no luck.

I may have used it.....while much smaller $$$, was thinking the next piece will be a premium, I'll bet.

Bad time for us people that like to work with metal. Those small projects that I can make out of what I have laying around are getting top priority right now.

i was working on a trailer last summer. picked up some steel, 2 weeks later went to go get a couple more pieces and the price had increased twice!! in the 2 week period. The plant said they basically have to change the prices for every order and when you call on a price the price they give you is only good for whats in stock at the time you call.

gotta wonder why steel plants aren't working 24/7 making affordable steel ?
Course if everyone stopped BUYING the $$$$ priced stuff, it'll get reasonable in 4-6 months, same as 2by4s did....

I have heard most of the steel we are getting is coming from China. When drilling through some of this steel I am noticing soft and hard spots in the metal.

Back in 2001 I got the crazy idea to put a steel ceiling in my barn using the steel barn panels. Well after struggling with the first piece, and not having anyone to help I gave up. I have a stack of at least 100 panels in the barn of 10 or 11' panels. Bet I could make a killing on those right now with what they cost.

I was doing some research on just how "green" wind power is. First step is what is involved in making each tower. The results are shocking. If made from 100% recycled steel, which I hope they are and no pig iron is used, the energy required to make 1 ton of steel, and this is just plain grade steel, is somewhere around 4,000 kilowatt hours. It also emits 1.5 tons of CO2. There are 260 tons of steel on the average tower. Now that is just to make the steel, it has to go to further processing through reheat furnaces, and rolling and whatever else is needed to get the sheet steel they use.

Producing steel is not cheap when it is all added up, it requires a lot of energy to produce, so as energy prices rise, so do steel costs. Some steel producers (China!!!) cut corners to reduce their costs, and it shows.

Yup, the province of BC is feeling that now.... That HUGE rainstorm DISASTER has been casue NOT by 'global warming', but from all the 'krap' in the atmosphere from the 1,000s of coal fired power plants and other 'nonEPA regulated compatible' operations in China

The company my Daughter works for make A500 plate,, I tried to buy some for targets,,, wish in one hand and take a dump in the other and see which one fills up first. They account for all scrapwhen they cut and shear plates to size

Yes they do! Majority of plants that make anything from metals accounts for all scrap since they figure it into the costs of parts as well as potential scrap values. My wife works for a company that makes a lot of containers from various metals and wanted to know if I could buy some scrap brass, and she told me they don't do that, it's all being accounted for. All figured into the overhead.
