Spacer question

Wondering if I can add rear wheel spacers to a bx1880 with a 48 inch MMM, deck ? If so, how wide a spacer I should go with ?

I believe you can - I added 1.5" with my BX1850 with 48" Deck - tires were close to anti-scalp wheels but did not rub at all.

Sure you can add spacers, 2 inch on each side makes a world of difference if you have hills, only thing is the anti scalp wheels might be very close to the tire, also if you plan on putting chains on for winter the spacers keep loose chains from taking things off you dont want to take off under the fenders

Thanks Skeets..My concern is the small 48 inch deck. If, I use 2 inch spacers will that move the wheels out to far that they hit the caster wheels on the deck ?

I think 2" will hit - just my opinion

Im sorry, I missed the 48 inch deck, I have a 60 inch deck, and for some reason just presume thats what everybody runs, yeah 1 1/2 would be much better

Thanks Skeets. I went with the smaller deck because we have a lot of obstacles to cut around on our property.. The reason for asking about the spacers was I recently moved fifteen yards of top soil, we have a hilly backyard, so stability on uneven ground is utmost. I am going to buy a ballist box for the rear and was thinking of spacers to move the rear tires out would also help. This BX is a great machine, wish I had bought one years ago.. It's truly an great investment.. Thanks again for your expertise.

You might NOT think that an 1 1/2" on each side would make a different - believe me when I say it will.
3 whole inches does make a difference - crazy as it sounds.

lift the deck up and measure the distance from the anti-scalp wheels to the rear tires on the horizontal plane.

In my case with my BX 2200, I think 1.25 inch spacers was the limit. Granted, I have the 60 inch deck. But in any case, when I raise my deck all the way up one side rubs on the tire a bit. When cutting grass it’s no problem.

Nothing beats an empirical measurement.

And the next question is, where do you buy your spacers? I bought mine off of eBay, or Amazon, don’t remember which. They actually were for a jeep, but they fit the BX perfectly. Also worked on my son-in-law‘s BX 23S. Much cheaper than other sources.

2” is really close to rear wheels on 60” deck on my 2380. As previous post mentioned, measure from outside of tire to edge of caster on both sides. Also keep in mind you may not be able to turn the rear casters for deck removal if you get spacers. Biffs equipment has video on YouTube installing them on a 2370, I got mine off ebay, they were for a Jeep. Around $60 for the 2”, I’m thinking 1.5” is your max with 48” deck, but measure to be sure….
