Hi Everyone; Just changing oil etc on my B7100 .

Got replacement fuel filter OEM a while ago. Trying to install it. Not sure about upper connection in filter housing. It APPEARs there might have been an oring gasket.??
Nothing there now.. (Photo follows) There is a groove around the upper small exit pipe.

There is a groove around the inner 'pipe'..

But I confused myself: I also had bought an aftermarket replacement fuel filter assembly. Has a visual bowl that I would prefer. Maybe.

It came with a very similar filter AND a rubber gasket with a shoulder. (see photo) . The gasket does not easily fit on the existing filter assembly.

Please help me to decide what to do.. (I am concerned about effective filtering... ) What have you seen??

? Reassemble filter with new element and no top gasket.

? Reassemble filter with that small gasket on top of the element?//

? Replace the entire fuel filter assembly with an aftermarket unit I have...

Any comments and suggestions appreciated!!

Thanks! Terry

Looking ahead.. When replacing fuel filter and turning inlet valve on, seems likely there will be some bubbles at the top.

Should we expect it necessary to bleed the bleeder at the injection pump inlet. Or will the system usually clear it with some cranking of the fuel lift pump??

Any suggestions welcome!

There are three separate part numbers you needed, 2 o-rings and the filter element. Here is the illustrated parts list from Messicks, but you need to look up your serial number since there are old and new sections for your tractor model

Hi Wolfie and Russell,
Not the first time you both have bailed me... (FIXING ! Photos! )

I decided to install the new Aftermarket filter assembly with the filter and gaskets it came with in place of the original filter assembly.

There were a few worries...
- Can I disconnect the old filter and install the new one without a diesel bath?? Took a while and I decided to try this:

- I have some small plugs for fuel lines etc. you can get several different ones in a package. Like these:
Amazon.com: smseace 40Pack Rubber Plugs 1/16 Inch to 5/8 Inch Rubber Stoppers 8-Sizes High Temp Silicone Plug for Coating, Round Hole, Painting Protection : Industrial & Scientific

- And I have one of those long Grabber things like this.

- And I grabbed the small plug and reached into the fuel tank and plugged the outlet hole..

Covered the opening

Carefully squeezed the clamps and removed the line from tank, unbolted the filter assy, pulled to the left and got the outlet clamp and hose off. Put the outlet hose on the new Filter Assy, clamped. bolted the filter in place, connected the input hose and clamp.

The New One:

Wiggled the plug and grabber out of the tank, replaced its filter and cap.

Turned the filter valve ON. Loosened the left bleeder screw (10mm), it bled some air and the filter tank filled (nice to have visual one). After bubbles stopped, opened the other bleeder and ran until bubbles stopped.

Opened the Toolkit door on the tractor and took out the 12mm offset box wrench and made sure it fit the Injector pump Bleeder. Everyone has one, right??? Or you're perfect and Never Ran Out Of Fuel :)
BleedInjectorPump.jpg

Closed throttle to cutoff stop, cranked engine for 10 seconds. Opened the bleeder on the Injector pump and some bubbles came out. Fuel kept coming. Closed it. (I didnt think fuel would flow without the engine cranking the lift pump. Hmmm.. Anyone opinions???

And THEN (Wearing the "Powered By Optimism" hat I never take off doing stuff like this or riding the Cairo Egypt Metro).

Set the throttle, 20 seconds of glowplugs, crank And.. Instant start not a single miss. Went out of the barn and did a Yahoo! Jump...

A lot better than it looked 2 hours ago. You guys like Wolfie and Russell and the old Opie etc etc. all know what this is like..

THANKS! Terry

Glad you have it going again.

As far as the fuel continuing to flow out of the bleeder valve without the pump…

If the tank is higher or the upper fuel level in the tank is higher than the bleed valve, gravity will force fuel to flow. My L185 has no “lift pump” since the bottom of the tank is a bit above the filter that is above the injection pump inlet.

B7100HST-D must be different from the gear B7100-DT.
The biggest pain changing my fuel filter was having to take the engine side cover off the get the fuel filter housing off.
Finally got tired of it and cut clearance in the side cover to get the bowl off without having to pull the side cover.

Years ago I took the side covers on my old B7200 off snd put them in a corner. When I sold it last month I handed them to the new owner.
