Solid Compression Tester Kit

I need to check the compression on a D722 in a BX1800 that I just bought as a project.

I have read several threads about compression testing - including a thread discussing the need to get the 8mm - 1.00 adapter (which I plan to do). I do not own a tester and wanted to see if anyone makes a good one that doesn't break the bank. I have seen Harbor Freight mentioned several times, but that's usually followed by complaints about their accuracy and quality.

Similarly, I have seen a few Snap On's listed on eBay, but the adapters seem to have different shaped ends to them. In other words, I'm not sure if they would work with the adapter that I need to buy from toolsource.com. Many thanks for any recommendations!

The HF kit is fine.. I wouldn't use it to diagnose a race engine week in & week out..
But for the occasional homeowner use, its perfectly fine..
It adapts easily to just about any adaptor you find..
Just take off an existing quick connect [IN THE KIT}& put on your adaptor..
The "SMALL kit" from HF is primarily for glow plug engines.. The "large kit" has the injector adaptors, along with glow plug adaptors.. The kit does not contain the injector adaptor for a Kubota engine tho..
You could just chase the threads on the GP adaptor w/ a die?? Its your call..
What your primarily looking for when checking the compression is anything below 300 & any large variation between cylinders..10% is usually max. example.. 325-325- 290.

I was successful with the cheap HF kit as well.
It was hard for me to find much help doing it but I got it done.

The "large kit" has the injector adaptors, along with glow plug adaptors.. The kit does not contain the injector adaptor for a Kubota engine tho..

My HF large compression test kit did have the Kubota Injector adapter, I think they vary form run to run with whoever actually make the kit because I've heard of people that got the kit and it doesn't have the right glow plug adapter.
