How low to the ground should my snowblower be set. I had someone tell 3/4". I find it's leaving a bit to much snow. I understand to close to the ground it will rub and wear out the bottom but 3/4" seems like a lot. I have a paved driveway if it makes a difference.

It completely depends on you! Most with gravel drives - keep it 1" above, where as you might be able to get it down to 1/2" on your paved drive.

I take it there are some type of shoes/feet on the bottom that change the height? I have seen modifications that attempt to lower it without damaging the bottom edge by changing the foot design from the one that the factory designed.;)

Mine gets used on paved surfaces. When I refurbished it, I stitched 3/8" flat bar to the existing bottom of the blower so it can ride on the paving. The two short sides already had a slight upturn to form a bit of a skid. That upturn is sufficient to ride up on the snow and leave a thin layer. I figured the 3/8" could be replaced if it ever wore down. So far they've been holding up very well.

freeon,

The bottom edge is called a wear bar. It's meant to be replaced every so often. If your pavement is in good shape, let the blower scrape down to pavement so you don't have to use salt and sand to keep folks from falling down.

My heavy LuckNow blower did not come with adjustable shoes or a cutting edge. I used it this way for a few uses, and even when rested on the housing the blower would rise up on the snow. It worked ok for the few times I used it, but I wasn’t happy with the low carbon steel housing taking the abuse.

Ended up installing large adjustable skid shoes on the outside of the housing and a cutting edge underneath. The cutting edge now sits about 1/4” above the pavement. The beveled cutting edge does a much better job than riding on the blower housing. If you use your blower frequently, I would recommend putting a cutting edge on the bottom.

I also have a long paved driveway and I set mine as low as it will go and the scraper edge is about 1/2 inch above the ground. It really depends on the snow type for my blower. Powder it works great but wet heavy stuff the skids like to try to ride up it.

I assume when saying cutting edge your talking about the 3/8" thick flat bar that is bolted to the bottom of the snow blower. I hadn't realized that it was there and easily changeable when it wears out. I'm going to adjust the shoes so that the blower sits lower and see if this helps. Currently after I'm done snow blowing I have to redo the driveway with the plow to get cleaner.

A cutting edge has a beveled edge which scrapes better than what is generally called a wear bar (flat steel). Adding the beveled cutting edge made a big difference in getting under packed snow.

With a wear bar and pavement you could put the blower all the way down since you would not be wearing out the actual blower housing. Certainly try various adjustments to what you have because the high carbon beveled edges are not cheap.

I also have a paved drive and I removed the shoes completely. With my meteor rear blower you also use the top link to adjust the pitch of the blower which in turn adjusts the ride height. Tip it back it rides the skids, tip it forward and the cutting edge digs in.
Takes a few tries to get it dialed in.
BTW, when you blow the neighbors gravel drive it will move the gravel to the front yard! [emoji16]
