Site Window: Level Tranny/hydraulic oil L235

on my L235 the site window is white with very clear red High and Low markings. Is it suppose to be white or has it aged so much it is no longer clear?

It's supposed to be white, it gives it a backdrop to see the oil, can't see it if the backdrop is black.
Oh the oil runs between the clear cover and the white background, if you don't see oil in the window your low.
