I have a BX2380 and I would like to purchase a sickle mower with a 5 or 6 foot bar. Are there any available at a reasonable price? I can’t justify 3 or 4 thousand dollars because I wouldn’t use it all that much. Also would I need to add some hyd hookups to my tractor?

Other than knowing what they are, I have zero experience with sickle mowers. I looked at some on the Everything Attachments site a while back. I had no intention of buying one, but my coworker was talking about cutting around his pond and I was curious what a new one would cost. The ones they sell aren't cheap and they do require a hydraulic connection.

I see old ones for sale on Craigslist for much cheaper.

Something like this:

But for your price point, you would have to buy used and maybe a different brand.

I borrowed one from a friend and have used it on my old l2501 and the new l4060le. It's a newholland 451 and works great. The only issue is the top arms for the 3 point aren't wide enough for the suspension to operate correctly. I actually have a couple videos of it on my you tube channel. Look me up at the richison's tree farm. They were a couple of my earlier videos with the 2501. I have one I'm editing using it on the 4060 now. Here is the video talking about the suspension.

A 6' sickle bar mower is too wide for a BX due to cantilevered weight. 5' should be OK if not too heavy.

Doubt that you will find any small used sickle bar mowers that will work with your Cat 0 hitch.

Be advised that sickle bar mowers are unlike other mowers commonly used with small tractors. They are not forgiving of improper operational technique or maintenance. Moreover, they are not suitable for short grass or low ground speed.

The NH 451 is an exceptional sickle bar mower, one of the best.

I sold my 7' 451 a few years ago and it sold quickly.

Will certainly not work with a BX, though, for multiple reasons.

I have seen a 4' sickle bar on a B7100 and it appeared to work great. I would love to have one for mowing my lot frontage/roadsides, but not likely I'll ever find one out here.

I worked for MODOT for 25 years and operated a sickle mower for at least 10 of those years so I’m well acquainted with sickle mowers. I just want something to mow weeds along side of rural roads. Or at least something offset to mow those places.
