Has anyone put a sickle head mower on a B2601. If so, how big? A friend is offering a JD 9' sickle mower but I am not sure how long of a bar the 2601 can handle. I assume it would be adaptable as long as it isn't to big but I don't know anything about them.

Unless that sickle bar mower is on it's own wheels and only being pulled and powered by the PTO, you could probably cut with it. However, it is WAY too much mower otherwise for that size tractor.

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you are going to mow a nice stand of hay you do not have enough tractor. If you want to trim around a pond or along a fence it will do. Remember to find an owners manual to get it adjusted correctly. It is important that the tip of the cutter bar is at the lead as you cut. And be careful of having all that weight hanging off to one side.

Thanks for the replies. Cutting around a pond was my thought for it. I have a MM and rotary but need a way to get close to the pond.
Wonder if I could fabricate a counter-weight to balance it out.

Tim was using it on a 1025R (1444 lbs per Tractor Data), B2601 (1632 lbs per Tractor Data), I would think you could use the same sickle mower Tim had on the 1025R.

Are your tires loaded? Are the wheels drilled so that weights can be added? I removed the weights from my MF before I traded it in. The L2501 with R4 does not have predrilled holes for wheel weights but it soon will have some. The stability that the wheel weights and loaded tires are worth the effort to obtain them. The MF 1528 was not very stable until I added the weights and the tractor would tip sideways when I picked up the disk mower that I used to cut hay. After the wheel weights the tractor was much more useful.

Ask your dealer for a weight source there are some but you must buy 1000 pounds at a time.

I don't have loaded tires or wheel weights. I have been using a weight box on the quick hitch or my box blade for ballast.
