Set up stabilizers for bush hogging

When bushogging, should I set my telescoping stabilizers so there is no play or should I put it in the notch that allows a little movement.
I’ve never had telescoping stabilizers before.
My tractor is an l4701

A little movement is good. A lot of slop isn't.

I used to set the pins in the holes. I now set them in the slots to allow some movement. Works either way. I think the slots are easier on the bush hog as they allow it to move a little to bounce off things as needed.

Is there any play between the mower and the tractor? If not what happens when the mower touches a tree or a fence post. A little give between the two might prevent some damage. I use the slots on the TL80A and my twin rotary and I know it has saved me some hard knocks.

Your dealer should read the manual I believe it's explained in there. The first time you misjudge the distance to that utility pole you'll understand why it's so important to choose the slots.

Don't want hardly any side to side slop. Bent my tensioning bars on my JD 4010 by not having them good and tight.
