Picked this up a couple of days ago. The holes for the lift arms are wallowed out but otherwise it seems ok. I need to add some weight to it and I'm guessing I will also need a proper top link to use it.

Here's a rake I made for de-thatching grass. Used it one time and it looked like I needed to bale my yard. (It had been an open field before the house was built.)

I use it to rake out the processed hay the horses produce.

I use it to rake my gravel drive way. After 3/4 trips up and down it looks like I hauled in tons of rock.

Made from the pick-up reel from an old square baler. Angle iron was the rails from a bed frame. 3pt bracket---I don't remember.

Basically free, works excellent.

With a long top link you could really change the angle of attack. Try it at first without weight and see what you think. I have good clay for my ground and at the wrong angle with a lot of weight my small tractor might just stay where I staked it. Bigger tractor and I would break the rake.

I'll be shopping for a top link this weekend. I'll give it a try as is first ;)

Scarifier and/or Rake

Bad news. This thing was made for a much larger tractor. The lower arms on my B7000 will only stretch to 37cm and the centerline on this is 54cm. Time to head to the blacksmith for a refit. :(

What's the best way to decide on the length of a top link? I've seen short and long. Ideally, I'd like one size for general purposes.

TC, you're buying a top link for your implements and want one to pretty much reach all of them?

I'd suggest hooking your 3 pt. arm to an implement. With the impl. in position to attach a top link I would measure c/c distance from the mounting hole on the impl. to the mounting hole on your tractor.

Whatever that dimension is, I would go to the supply house and check top links available. Find one you can adjust out (bolt ends) half way to reach your desired dimension. This will give you the max. adjustment both for shorter and longer.

Bought a top link from the dealer last Saturday. Had to grind a little bit off so it would fit. Picked up the scarifier from the shop and it will need some tweaking too. My fault that I didn't give him the width of the lift arms. :(

After grinding some of the ball joint from my shiny new top link to fit the attachment point and with extensive use of the vocabulary I learned in the Navy and a little help from a BFH, I was able to get the scarifier/rake attached. Works like a charm!

I stuck it several times! No additional weight necessary.;)

Went out this morning with the scarifier to "test" the welds before I clean it up and paint it. I'm having a problem with the lift arms not holding in position. They keep sliding in towards the center which causes them to bind on my two-point when I raise it. I've tried adjusting the turnbuckles but no success. Any suggestions?

From what I see - you are missing parts on your 3 point set up. On my L185 a stud is bolted into the rock arm and then the vertical lift rod slips over that stud. The upper end of the vertical lift rod has a ball socket in it just like the ball ends of the new top link you bought. Seems like yours will bind with anything that pushes to the side.

I think your vertical lift rods are not "stock" nor suited to the application.

If needed I can find and post pictures of what I mean.
