Well i had to run in to Sams for an Rx and figured I might as well pick up some stuff I needed. Off I go happily skipping through Sammy world.Back to the meat counters,,, WTF ,, no ground meat, no pork chops ,, the top round looked like almost gray. I asked one of the guys working there where the meats were, he said right there, I mean ground meat, we dont have any, OK how about some fresh steaks and not the gray stuff,, we dont have any, how about pork chops, pork shoulder, anything, sorry he says just what we have. OK, when will ,,,DUDE I DONT KNOW WHAT WE ARE GOING TO GET OR WHEN! Some body was having a back day I guess. Product pretty well picked over, bread it was there but shelves were very low, TP only like 4 or 5 packs and forget paper towels. I stood there kind of muttering to my self, and this old gal looks at me and says so this is what socialism looks like in America. I looked at her and said I dont know what it looks like but this is not good. She told me her family came to America in the 60s from Poland, and she remembers when she was a young girl shopping with her mother and waiting in line to buy 1 loaf of bread, and 2 pork chops. We parted ways and I thought I remembered seeing pictures of those things back on TV and in school. I hope history isnt going to repeat it self in my America.

I said long ago, not in my lifetime but lately, I think... In my lifetime. Wife just bought 6 nice thick Porterhouse steaks at the local Krogers. Won't allude as to the price but we can afford it.

I would never buy any meat or fresh vege's at Sams or Costo. Fresh to them is less that 2 weeks old.

My bet is hoarders and an upcoming holiday weekend.

Our local Sam's clubs were out of pretty much anything meat for a couple months when the pandemic hit. Right up through memorial day weekend.

I wanted to do some pulled pork and couldn't find a boston butt anywhere for memorial day weekend.

Sam's clubs meat counter was empty through memorial day. I stopped in the next day after memorial day and the meat coolers were stocked slap full. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

I'll be in our local one tonight to pick up a few things.

I'm actually boycotting Krogers at the moment after their facebook post during the riots. Some of their terms and comments they made in their post were pretty condescending. Wife left a reply on their facebook page letting them know how we felt and that we would no longer be shopping at their store, in preference of one that supported unity of all races instead.

While we're very rural, what we're finding lately is that the smaller stores are better stocked than the big ones.

We've also found that our rural "big" store is often much better stocked than the same store in a bigger town an hour away.

We can't find everything we want at any one place, but have better luck at the little places.

Size does matter, I guess....

I have to feed a tribe so I have been buying large "no-roll" primal cuts at our local restaurant supply store and cutting/packaging it down from there. Due to the local restaurants being closed or minimal capacity, the supply store has been very well stocked and glad to see us come in.

If you can handle a little butchering, you can usually find whatever you need at a restaurant supply.

Skeets, stopped by Sam's club tonight. Meat counters were fully stocked. So.it's probably something regional.

You may well be right, though the last time I was in there it was the same thing. At least the liqueur store was open :)

The local club in our smaller town is usually better stocked . The club on my way home from the city is usually slim pickens in the meat department.

About a month or so ago it was pretty slim here for a couple weeks. Then they put a two package limit on fresh meat. Been pretty well stocked for the past couple weeks though. Was there tonight and they took the two package limits down.

I guess if push cam to shove, a steer in the side lot will suffice. We have a few.

Amazes me that somebody with freezers full of meat and meat on foot needs to go to the store to buy meat during these “trying times” 🤔

We use SAMS for the essentials (frozen & canned foods, coffee, paper goods, etc) but never, ever fresh meat. Walmart either.

Completely agree on smaller, local grocers having good selection of meat. Aldi too has good meat, especially pork for the smoker.

That they do, but one cannot beat Kroger when they have a sale on pork butts. 99 cents a pound, I buy 1 or 2 cases depending on how much room is in the chest freezers. They had them on sale for 1.49$ last week, and I just laughed as I walked on by.

Same when they have briskets on sale. Sure does take up some space, but it's nice to save A LOT of money over the year instead of paying normal price when we want to have a cookout or birthday party.

Thing is, stuff gets freezer burned because I am by my self now so where as I use to get a half, now it is just a couple pounds of ground chuck or round or half a dozen pork chops or a small ham or pork shoulder to smoke or what ever. Seems now a dozen eggs last 2 weeks or more

I love roasted pork Picnics. Like City Chicken, hard to find today.
