based on the pictures, have dealer swap you another bucket. I zoooomed up the 2nd picture and it looks like the weld is in 2 sections, though it should have been ONE continuous pass. Amazing the paint didn't 'flow' around and hide it better. The rust indicates the weld didn't get hot enough to penetrate both side and bottom sections.it is now a weak spot, over tie more rust, less strength and pieces will come apart.
At least that's what I see.....

Use the bucket; it'll scrape the rust out. Then hose the bucket clean and put WD40 in a SureShot and spray the bucket. (WD = Water Displacement in the right sprayer.)

It's new, I get it, and that looks like the weld was a little cold--that's the bigger issue, because the weld could fail in a few years if the weld doesn't have good penetration and you use the bucket hard. Don't worry about the paint, worry about the construction. Water/moisture will always get trapped in that area and it's prone to rust, you'll want to stay on it with WD40 any time you store it. At least I would, but I'm a fabricator not a tractor expert.

Personally I'd take pictures and send them to the dealer, ask Kubota for warranty paint, and take the bucket to the shop and have my guys grind the weld out and re-weld the area, then prep and spray it. But that's me, and I'm not even sure I know what I'm doing... :ROFLMAO:

Personally I would ask the dealer to do that.

Or more likely I would just ignore it. 🙄

It’s hard for me to say from the picture, but that rust looks like corrosion coming from not a scratched bucketed, but from the filler material from the weld (and a cold one at that). At a glance IMO that is a problem that will not go away with out a proper repair or replace. You can paint that all you want and it will continue. JMHO.

If it was a scratch and some light surface scale I would say use the bucket and shine it up. (I don’t think that is what it is from the picture).

Honestly I would wonder why the dealer even delivered the tractor like that.

Good luck. I hope they stand behind what they sell.

Contact the dealer, have him look at it personally, express your concerns.... see what he offers to do about it. The answer your receive will help you understand how your dealer may treat you in the future.

New bucket, defective quality = Dealer replace for a new one or they reweld and give you some money back.

My quick attach had a bad weld, I did not discover it until the QA broke. Obvious the penetration was non-existent. But years later and my dealer ignored me. It does not seem that uncommon for parts made in the USA for Kubota to have poor welding. Paint hides stuff until it doesn't.

Looks like some oil contamination was sitting along the leg of the weld resulting in a defect in the paint. Hard to tell if it's a bad weld or not but doesn't look like it to me from where I sit. If it were my bucket, I'd get the needle gun on that area, clean with acetone and paint with some Kubota orange paint. It's a bucket and it's going to get a lot more messed up than that if you actually use it.

Each person has different circumstances.

I personally wouldn’t worry about it, but I have a welder, and could take care of it, IF anything ever came of it.

I agree with @WI_Hedgehog overall assessment... (y) 🍻

The rest of the welds look decent... not just from a paint perspective either.

Things will never change if customers don't push back against shoddy workmanship. That Kubota factory in Georgia is an embarrassment to this country.

I don't know, from where I sit I've been more than pleased with all of the Kubota and Land Pride products that I've bought over the last 10 years. Four tractors and too many implements to count and a lot of money spent.

I'm not a fan of anything about the south, and I mean anything, but every company will produce some bad products that need attention, and your comment is painting with a very wide brush based on very little data. Yes, you had a bad experience with your backhoe if memory serves, and you like to bash Kubota every chance you get, but it seems that many are happy with their overall Kubota/Land Pride experience.

Everyone's a welding expert on this forum. 🙄 The photos aren't sufficient to determine whether or not the weld is defective, so any claims of weld failure are about as meaningful as saying that the welder was named William.

What is meaningful is the way the paint edges around the void are rounded or rolled. This suggests a repulsive force on the paint along the weld edge, either due to a net charge along the edge of the weld, a magnetic field, welding/grinding dust, oil or some other component that had a net charge opposite to that of the paint.

If it had hours on it, was scratched up, yeah, thats reasonable. But brand new, you paid for it to be new, not repaired and almost new. If your dealer is a great shop, and often cut you favors, then I'd be inclined to do as you did and return the kindness. It is a work machine, not a garage princess.
My QA that fractured, it was clear that one of the three welds, had no penetration and it was not obvious to me (paint looked good for years) until loading caused a good weld to fail and the QA to twist.

Background: got a new LX4020 cab. Noticed rust on weld in bucket a couple days after delivery.
What should I do about this? Email my salesman to document it in case it fails down the road?
Other thoughts?
Update: dealer is going to exchange the bucket for a new one without apparent rust

Awesome solution. Sometimes you just have to ask.
Proves there's still a few good people in the world.
Have fun with the new LX!
