A while back I posted about a RTV x900 that had been submerged under water for a time. I've come a long way with this machine. The machine is running after replacing the fluids, starter, alternator, injection pump, and injectors .
After operating the machine the oil level in crankcase has gone up significantly. Over twice the upper level mark. The only fluid that has dropped is the hydraulic fluid level in tank. The oil has turned gray and is sticky slick. If it had been water I would expect more milky slippery oil. There is no drop in radiator level. Is there any way for hydraulic fluid to reach crankcase? The only other fluid is fuel but our fuel is dyed and the color is not apparent in oil. Any insight is appreciated.

How much has the hydraulic fluid dropped? Significantly?

How is the hydraulic pump driven?
On my B7100, the pump is driven off the cam, and if the pump shaft seal fails, it can dump hydraulic fluid into the crankcase.

As suggested it is typical for the hydraulic pump to be driven by the cam or other gearing. If the shaft seal on the hydraulic pump leaks the result is hydraulic fluid in the crankcase.

Oil from the hydraulic tank mounted beneath the passenger seat can get into the engine from the hydraulic pump which is mounted just to the rear and below the fuel injection pump.
Hydraulic oil mixed with engine oil should not turn gray, that is the result of water in the engine oil.

metal in the oil can turn it gray and normally it stinks too. But at that point you also usually would have engine noises that aren't normal.

the hydraulic oil tank dropped about 2 or 3 gallons. level is below half. there are no external leaks on this machine. sounds unbelievable i know. the radiator has not dropped its level. i will look into the pump seal, see what that entails. appreciate the help. i will keep you posted.

Have you checked the fluid level in the trans-axle? The engine will not hold an extra 2 to 3 extra gallons of fluid.
