I want to start out by saying I am a new tractor and implement owner, so I am learning.
I have a Land Pride RCR 1860 rotary rough cut mower. Can anyone tell me how to remove the PTO/slip clutch from the implement. I have taken out the bolt that connects the slip clutch to the shaft from the gear box. The pto/slip clutch is not froze to the gear box shat (it easily spins and moves). When I try to pull it off it moves easily 1"-2" and then stops. Seems like there may be a snap ring or something else holding it on the gear box shaft. Hard to tell. Plastic safety housing is in the way (unfortunately in order to get this off, the pto/clutch needs to come off first. What am I missing? Thanks.

I ASSUME that the input shaft into the mower is a cylindrical smooth shaft and there is a (shear) bolt through the yoke and shaft.

If that is what you have there is an external circlip at the front of the shaft that holds the yoke from coming off the shaft if the bolt is missing. I don’t recall 100% on the process but here is what I think will work:

1) Un attach the plastic shield from the PTO shaft.
2) slide the shield towards the tractor so you have a good view of the shaft and yoke.
3) push the shaft and yoke towards the mower gearbox. This may be the tricky part, you need to be able to see and remove the circlip so you may need a good light to see and a judicious amount of movement of the yoke towards get it in the open.
4) use some good circlip pliers to remove the circlip. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to grab one ear to pull it out towards the front of the shaft. Then it can just be pulled off. (But I replace the circlip with new than just in case I damaged the clip.)
5) remove the PTO shaft yoke from the mower

I recommend that you record how this came apart so you can read through that in the future unless you have a good memory!

I bought several new circlips just in case they fly away during installation.
