Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I have been lurking around some and thought this was a good active forum with a solid knowledge base. i tried searching but many of the answers I found were from old posts. Thought some new information might be available now.
first… I just bought a low hour L2501. Not many hours but the older gentleman ran into everything it seems.
closest dealer in an hour away so I was wondering who has the best price and inventory if I want to order parts online.
i want to replace all filters and change the oil to start with.
cosmetic damage include need edging a new front grill, new step, new left side tail light assembly unless just the lens can be replaced.
also, is there a solution for the loud hydraulic whine? I have read others saying different oils would make it quieter but has that been proven? If so what type of oil?

sorry for all the questions that I am sure have been answered somewhere already.

this isn’t my first tractor. Probably my 8th but first with hydrostatic drive.

Welcome aboard! The links below show parts and prices for the L2501. Apparently there are two slightly different models and the serial numbers where the split happened are listed ("old" vs "new").

The whine is louder on some models. I had an L3200 and it was annoying. It was the loudest I've had (Ford 1210, Kubota B7500 and L4240 have all been quieter). Using Super UDT2 seemed to make a slight difference. It may sound odd, but the hat I wore made more of a difference than the fluid used. A baseball cap was better than my brimmed hat because the brim acted a lot like cupping my hand to my ear to wear smaller sounds. Picture an old guy with hand to ear squinting while trying to hear what the neighbor is hollering:)

Another characteristic of some plain L models is a jerkiness when lowering an implement on the 3-point hitch. It is more of an annoyance than a real problem for most operations. The story that I heard was Kubota used cheaper valves on them as one of the measures to build an affordable series. One poster said his dealer told him that if he wanted smoother lowering, buy another valve or more expensive tractor.

Either Messicks or Coleman’s online for parts. But it wouldn’t hurt to get prices from your local dealer. Especially larger items like the grill to save on shipping.

Super UDT2 will be recommended for the oil. Strange enough the dealer I go by most often doesn’t even stock it. I had to buy it at the dealer closest to my house.

The HST will whine more under load so make sure you’re in the correct gear range for your tasks. The HST pedal is speed control not throttle.

Well, THAT (my previous post) wasn't helpful. The link only takes you to the start of the parts search and not the pages I had on the screen:(

You might want to do a complete hydraulic fluid change using SUPER UDT2, the "older gentleman" might have used something cheap that added to the whine.

My L3901 whines like a banshee. Just the nature of the beast.

I buy online from Messicks. Local dealer for heavy stuff like oil by the bucket.

Not from personal experience yet, but other folks have indicated that rubber floor mats helped quiet the HST noise. I plan this upgrade in my near future.

I know I am no help here but, I heard the rumors of hydro transmission whine. I have to wear hearing aids for hi frequency loss and I knew I didn't want to hear that. That is one of the reasons I went with a gear drive. I mute my hearing aids and wear earmuffs over them if I am going to be running for a while. But for doing things like moving firewood vs running the backhoe I can be comfortable with just the muffs over the aids turned on so I can pick up conversation etc.

Besides 25 plus years with my 8n I knew gear drive would work for me.

Shop around. Messick’s shipping is overpriced. Check reviews on here about it. Even try calling your local dealers, mine has prices for parts that is competitive or cheaper than Messick’s, they may be cheaper on shipping due to location. Coleman Equipment is another online option.

Not gonna lie... I am having a hard time getting used to the HST. I also have a L3600 I bought in 1995. it has the forward / reverse shuttle on the column. Right now, I prefer it over this HST but I will give it time. I bought it because I read so many people saying how they loved it. Very weird so me... I still catch myself pushing in the clutch.

Gotta' love those Ford N tractors! I have a 1944 2N that is still called upon for some tasks...easy to tune up, easy to fix, easy to operate.

Most parts are manufacturer specific and are supplied only by Kubota. Yes, you can order online from many dealers, but you may be hammered on shipping.

Assuming that your tractor has the correct oil in the HST, changing to SUDT2 will make little if any noticeable difference in operating noise.

Hate the whinny HST myself. But, it sure was handy moving dirt and gravel when I got the lot ready too build our house. Changing to Super oil didn't help a bit with the whine but ear buds help. I have a L3301 HST.
Have not had to buy worn or defective parts yet with only 535 hrs. One hydro hose but got it replace at the local car parts store. I drive 35 miles to closest dealer for hydro oil and filters.
