I have questions I am seeking answers to regarding the right front cv axle and the front differential.

I broke the cv shaft at the hub and need to replace the cv axle. I watched many a YouTube video. Most of them were about the RTV 900. I proceeded with the task and did get the CV axle removed.

The 900 videos always showed removing 3 bolts from the diff and the cover would separate. at which time, a snap ring would be removed and the old cv axle could then be separated from the cover.

My issue is that my X1120D had 5 bolts on the front diff. To get to the bottom 2 bolts I had to remove 4 bolts underneath the unit securing the front diff. After removing these 5 bolts, the cover did not separate from the front diff. What happened was the I was able to pull the CV axle out of the front diff while the cover remained . The CV axle still had the snap ring in place.

Is there a need to remove the cover from front diff to replace the axle? If so, how is that done?
Is is normal for the axle to be able to be pulled off the front diff?
Can I insert the new axle with snap ring into the front diff after securing the cover with the 5 bolts

No you do not take anything apart, the axle shafts just snap into place.
