Hi my RC72-25 belly mower is making an annoying high pitch noise. The blade on the discharge sis spins freely. The bolt seems tight. I am thinking there is a key that has sheared off??? If so, what is the easiest way to get the blade off? What size socket do I need, the bolt head is kind of worn so it may not be easy. Thanks

You say the discharge side spins freely? The others don't? Do you have a broken belt? Do you have a build up of grass clogging the blades?

Thanks for the quick reply. The shaft spins and all three pulleys spin. When the grass is thick is when I hear the noise. With the pro Office can freely spin the blade without the pulley spinning. If I put a wrench on the bolt the belt, puppies and shaft will turn. But the blade is free moving. Now that I’m thinking probably not a shaft key.

I'm not sure what you're saying here, "With the pro Office can freely spin the blade without the pulley spinning. If I put a wrench on the bolt the belt, puppies and shaft will turn."

I'm going to try to interpret.... with the engine off you can freely spin the blade without the pulley spinning. If I put a wrench on the bolt the belt, pulley and shaft will turn?

If this is what is happening I would suggest to remove the pulley on the discharge side (the spindle that is free wheeling). You'll need a 3 jaw puller. There is a key under there holding the spindle to the shaft. Maybe it got dislodged.

Post some pictures if you can showing the pulley.

I would guess either the bolt broke off in the jackshaft, but is engaged enough to hold the blade, or the key is out on top.

I'd put a piece of lumber(2x4) in a position under the deck to keep the blade from spinning and remove the bolt holding the blade on. See what you find. Wear gloves and use a 6 point socket. Turn counter-clockwise when looking at the bolt head.

Ok the 2x4 will need to go on one of the other blades because this blade spins freely and when I tried to remove the bolt everything connected spun. Any idea what size socket?

I'm missing something. If you block the blade so it will not spin and you try to remove the bolt holding THAT blade....the blade can not spin if it's turning is being blocked by the 2x4.

Or, maybe just the bolt to that blade is coming out (loose) and needs to be tightened?
