I am buying a L4701 this week. I was going to use a spare 55 gallon drum as a rear ballast. But when I buy, I am going the route of quick hitch. I was wondering if anyone has a good way or if anyone has a quick hitch made up on a barrel. From what I can tell just a draw bar slid thru the barrel won't work and will need some modification.

Anybody done this?

That will still work sort of, It Just puts the top link attachment point to far forward.

Are you good at fabricating?
If so, you'll need to make a bar where the bottom points line up with the top center point.

If not, Buy a Quick hitch compatible ballast box and be done with it. ;)

Scratching my head before I get started...

The way that I am thinking is a quick hitch will need to be installed on the outside of the barrel instead of the inside right???

If I put the draw bar on the inside, I'm not sure how the top link will connect even if it's possible on the inside with a QA setup.

Am I thinking correctly?

Can you weld? These were easy projects, great for practice. The black one I need to cut the lower tabs off and mount them higher (and make them thicker). On the "todo" list.
On the black one, how thick is your band that you have around it?

I was going to do something like this...

But it won't work with QH so I may wind up using a carry all like what you did.

That barrel photo was an example of what i was going for. I would definitely lower the hitch sleeve. I am also adding some vertical pipe inside for shovels and such and leaving the concrete about 6 to 8" from the top for some storage for chains and such.

Are you planning to store this out in the open? Or store it indoors? Hint, if you don't have drain holes, it fills up with water when you leave it outside, Please don't ask why I know this.... $%%^&*
It will be stored indoors but I still plan to drill a few holes in the bottom with about an inch or so of gravel before I put in concrete.
