My L3940 HST has about 250 hours and I've noticed the PTO will not shut off at times. The switch is off, the dash says it's off but it's still turning. It will eventually stop after a few minutes. I have had to stop the engine and wait a few minutes to get it to stop......Any idea's??

Yes...I've tried that too. Of course as long as I hold in the clutch the PTO stops. It starts again when released. Sometimes I can just drive on and will eventually turn off.....Strange I know.

It's cable operated and probably out of adjustment.
Get the WSM for the tractor and adjust the PTO clutch.;)

It is switch operated. All electrical indications show it is off. Even the safety switches believe it is off. It just about has to be in the mechanical system. I have the shop manual but it really don't get specific when it comes to PTO diagnostics.

Like they say, it's all in the details.
You have a L3940HST-3 or a L3940HSTC-3 (If it's a cab model)
Call the dealer and see it they can get you the supplemental section for the -3 PTO controls.

You will need to pull and rebuild or replace the PTO valve, the valve is hanging.

I have an L3901HST with 50 hours. I was having a similar problem and in my case the very small switch at the bottom of the PTO was the culprit I actually bent the spring steel contact. And the problem went away.
