Looking at a 2008 B7800. Owner says the odometer reads a lower rpm (appr. 1500 rpm's)
when he is running the engine at pto speed.

Is there a fix for this?

Will the tractor have clocked less hours than it would have
if the odometer read the rpm's correctly?

First and foremost: Tractors do not have Odometers, that's a mileage thing.
Tractors don't track miles.
Second and even more important, it a Tachometer that tells engine speed not an odometer. ;)
The hour meter does not depend on a certain RPM to register hours, any movement should count up the hours, that is if 1 it is a machanical hour meter and two it is not damaged.
The tach on this model is is cable driven and it could have a bad dive gear, bad cable or bad tach.
How do you know it's only registering 1500RPM at PTO speed?

Here is a picture of your dash.......

Notice the TICK mark at 2600 rpm's? THIS is where you are going to operate PTO 1 @ 540 RPM's

If you were to run your TACH at a lower engine speed - the PTO speed would also go way down, and you would not have the torque to do that which you are trying to do!

As NIW said - an Odometer records miles and a Tachometer shows engine rev per minute. YOUR "hours" are recorded as the key is turned on MOST tractors.....so if for some wild reason you left you key in the ON position - the hours would rack up - whether you idle or run WOT - the hours meter records the hours used (running)

Most all Tach's have a small mark to ID the correct engine speed vs the proper PTO speed - TRUE, several do not have the "tick" mark, but most owners read in the manual that "X" rpm = 540 rpm, which is standard across the industry.
