I just got a BH77 backhoe mounted on my B2650 this winter. I'm always greasing the fittings on the tractor and can never get grease to pass on the pins to the backhoe bucket. I'm going to fab a ripper tooth and pulled one of the pins to get some measurements. When I measured the pin it was .985 and the bushings in my bucket were also .985.The grease is being trapped between the bushings. The zerk fitting is on the end of the pins with a grease whole drilled in the center of the pin between the bushings. I'm a tool and die maker so adding some grease grooves and what not is not a problem. The questions I have are: Since my hoe is new is it something you wait for the pins to wear and eventually grease will begin to pass to the bushings? and Do you want grease to pass all the way through hardened bushings to the bucket bushings or do you try and keep this area greaseless do to your bucket being put directly in the dirt to keep dirt from accumulating on the grease?

The tolerances are pretty tight for the reason you described . Even though when you grease it you may not see much ooze out but as you work the hoe the grease gets warm and runs where its supposed to .

The pin should accept grease and it should ooze out the ends without having to machine the pin.

When you had the pin out, did you try to run grease through the Zerk to squirt out the center hole? There may be a problem with the Zerk or the hole may be plugged. It would be worth removing the pin again to try to diagnose the problem.

If you can manually apply a light coating of grease to the pin and the pin still slides in the bushing then the pin should accept grease through the Zerk. The fact that you were able to remove the pin (without a sledge hammer, I hope) should indicate there is a slight window for greasing.

And no, having the pin dry is not a good option. New grease should force out the old grease and clean the pin in the process.

If you have the pin out, anyway, take the zerk out, and make sure you can see light through the hole, then put it all back together, and have a new zerk in hand, ready to replace. Before putting the new zerk in, fill the hole with ATF, then put the zerk in, and grease...

If you are still considering a grease groove/spiral, i wouldnt run it right to the ends of pins. Minimize dirt intrusion. You may want to consider a lighter grease or warm pin/boss slightly.
I guess a groove- one ring around where grease port is. Cant use a flat as pin rotates so indexing to non pressure side wont work-unless pin is locked in and cant spin.

I have a similar situation on my B670 after a rebuild- some fits are really tight, particularly the swing bearings. Moving the joint may allow you to find a spot where grease will go into the joint. For some reason, in order to grease the swing bearings, I must swing the hoe all the way to the right to grease the upper swing bearing, & all the way to the left for the lower.

Ordered mine yesterday! I hate grease gun fittings that leak. My handy air driven grease gun has a problem getting grease into several of my BX2230 front end loader zerk fittings without leaking a lot of grease..

Got my LockNLube and gave it a try on some of the harder to take grease points on my BX2230.. Works far better than any other grease gun tip I've had. Grease pumps in with zero leaking on the zerk fitting...

I had a couple of the bucket pins on my BH that did the same thing you describe. What I would do is hook the coupler on the zerk and work the bucket back and forth while pumping grease. It would take pretty good and I didn't have to modify my pins.
