Possible mouse damage to B7500 panel?

Several times recently I have seen mice scurry out from underneath the instrument panel by the pedals. Recently, I cannot get my B7500 to crank over. Battery charge is good, set to neutral, clutch pressed in, but no response whatsoever when turning the key. The lights do work.

Do I need to pull the steering wheel in order to get at the wiring around the key? I would like to check for mouse nests. My old pickup has had several mouse nests removed from the dashboard fan area, which is hard to get at, so I am wondering if the mice are also causing gremlins with the Kubota starting system. It seems like this is a difficult area to work on.

Yes you probably will have to remove the steering wheel.

Once you get the nut loose, leave it on the stud so the wheel doesn’t come off suddenly.

I just sit in the seat and push up on the steering wheel with my knees and pull up with my hands. The shaft on my L185 is tapered and lets loose pretty suddenly.

I spray it with a PB Blaster and let it sit for a while before trying to much.

Don’t use a wheel puller on the back side of the wheel without looking closely at it. There is usually a plastic lip that gets damaged by the puller.

Mice enjoy the soy in the insulation on the wiring.

What I found works good to keep the critters away (beside a good barn cat) is to put moth balls in an old sock and tie it shut. Put that sock in any vicinity you can where mice may be a problem. If you need to get the sock back into an odd position wrap some baling wire through the end and poke it into place with a stick. As necessary pull the wire to get the sock out to replace the "nice smell". I get the 3 pack at Wal-Mart.
