Sorry to hear all of that. I'm disappointed but my wildlife plots did well. I still have corn stalk bundles and mini bales if I wanted to sell something. I feel fortunate that we had a garden because the last 2 years we didn't.Looks good. Don’t beat yourself up about your crop. That’s 100% more than I got because my garden completely drowned and either never came up or died shortly after. Many of the vegetable farmers along the river, 4 miles downhill, lost all their crops in July when the river flooded and either killed the plants or had to be destroyed because of all the silt on them.
Nice look...I'm going to load mine up like yours and maybe the wife will let me park it in the front yard for the fall decorations.Tonight the family and I picked our garden. Between the heat, then extreme rain and myself not being fully capable of spraying with my injuries . The end result wasn't the greatest. Most years we get a full flat rack. This year just a loader bucket full. Oh well. Good family time and good photo op. View attachment 110878 View attachment 110879

Looking back about may 20th. I worked on a pumpkin farm in high school they opened up the 2nd to last weekend of September. As usual, great photo / lighting.
Wow! pumpkins already? When did you start them / when plant them? (Ours are just starting to turn but no where near being mature.)
Sorry to hear that. Did you work up a section of lawn by chance? Our garden was part of a field. I use to disc it but it packed down the soil so much. For me planting a cover crop and plowing really helped. Even just old leaves would help. A soil test might help you out too. You can do everything right but still have poor results. Like a real farmer says " maybe next year"I'm on my second attempt at a large garden this year and it's the second failure.
Last year I broke fresh ground on my 20x30 plot. Which wasn't easy using a small hand tiller, (thank god for the lx and the 3pt tiller). We tilled the ground and applied some allegedly veggie safe weed and feed. All but 4 plants kicked the bucket shortly after planting. It was dry, but we watered about every other day. At the end of the year we retilled and nothing grew back.
This year with a dead patch of dirt and a new 3pt tiller I went after it a little late in the season but added some generic fertilizer only. I tilled it into the dirt, waited a few weeks, watered the ground and retilled just before putting the plants in. Everything was healthy and happy for about two weeks before out of nowhere the thickest weeds and grass you'd ever seen jumped up overnight and choked everything out. Im talking over two feet high in less than a week. Pretty much had to leave it as I could no longer discern between my vegetables anymore. This years crop was harvested today, only 3 cherry tomatoes and some jalapeños.
So don't feel down about a small harvest, it could definitely be worse.![]()

It was a couple years ago. Since I initially tilled it last year there hasn't been any grass or weeds. Just what we planted. Then this year a couple months after planting it suddenly became over run. We'll try again next year.Sorry to hear that. Did you work up a section of lawn by chance? Our garden was part of a field. I use to disc it but it packed down the soil so much. Been there. Got starlink earlier this year. Dug a trench with the kubota to just quickly and temporarily bury the wire till I do a permanent installation. Only about 6" down. My gutters empty into the ground. I hit the drainage tile and tore out a 60" (the size of the bucket) section as apparently whomever installed it didn't think it needed to be deeper.Better than me!
I planted 3 Big Boy tomato plants just outside the kitchen door.
I have good Big Boy tomatoes, but.....
I hate 'em!
When I planted them (with a shovel), I accidentally cut the 75 year old 110V line to my outdoor post light.
Now, I have a major project,......all for just for a few lousy tomatoes.
Digging, with my 16" trenching bucket, is going to make a BIG mess!
