While I was looking for where that magnet came from, I reliezed that I do need to do an oil change, and while Im under there fuel filters as well. But I was wondering what are the specs for the OEM filters over an after market filter. We all know the big "K" doesnt make filters or oils, so what the difference between say a cross WIX filter vs an OEM filter?
And please no thats ll I will ever use yada, yada, yada, Im looking for the specs of the filters. A lot of loyality whores in this world, and thats way cool I dont have a problem with that.
I use K&N filters on the HD not HD stuff and M1 oil, so Im not one of them.
And then there are those that want to know the differences

Skeets,

I will bet there is a very little difference between X and Y brand, some you used a cardboard tube, some use more mesh, but the effectiveness of the filtering will be very hard to find who's is better.

If someone is gutsy - get something that can be measured, like 30 microns grits and place that solution through a series of filters.....that would be the test of which is the better filter, but never seen it done before!

If you are an amazon shopper - you can get dang near any filter you wish. Especially for the engine. As for the specs - that might be tough to attain. Hell even finding the micro rating on a fuel filter can get crazy.

IF you want to stay with K filters - get on Ebay and order you a 6 pack of them, you'll always have one on the shelf and the shipping will pay for itself over the long haul too. ;):)

Seems like it was lugbolt or TJ someone that sees a lot of these filters that said they had trouble with maybe Wix filters blowing out? Sorry memory gone, but the takehome message was there can be a problem with some of them regardless of the specs.

I just changed the engine oil with about 2 hours on it because the seal went bad on my hydraulic pump and dumped JT5 in my engine. I replaced the Kubota filter with a Napa Gold. The Napa Gold was significantly smaller, meaning less surface on the filtration medial all else being equal. Fram is one that I generally avoid. It could be different now, but I sectioned a few filters back in HS. The Fram had a about half of the media in it that the Baldwin and AC delco ones did.

Napa and wix are the same filters. Just drop the wix number down to the last 4 digits and you have the Napa number.

I've had a few filters blow over the years. Found a blockage that caused it to blow.

Also had some fleet guard filters that failed miserably. As soon as the engine got warm, it would start leaking oil at the base. Happened to have a couple older ones in my service truck and compared to the new ones. The old ones were made here in the states. The new ones that failed were made in Mexico
