Ready to do my first oil change on the BX2200
and the oil filter is way tighter than expected, and no room for both hands or tool to remove it

What do you folks use to remove the BX oil filter?

I'm heading into town in a few days, I'll try to locate a tool at NAPA

Thanks for your input

Pops

I used the cup style that goes over the end of the filter and uses a breaker bar / ratchet on my BX25.

Tight filters when new are recurring problem. Other reports here and my experience is that filters are installed 'dry' at factories, no oil film on gasket.

Get a pair of Channellock ($25) PVC Oil Filter pliers or HF knockoffs ($5). If Channellock comes in three sizes that will remove any filter you can grasp. Also great on PVC pipe which is their original intent before being discovered for filters.

Before chaning filters try setting the new one upright and filling with correct oil or fluid. The media will become wetted and the fluid will sink into the filter. After fifteen minutes you can hold the filter upside down and no drips. Install and don't have to worry about filter loading or adding much new fluid.

Caveat: reports here and also my experience there is no check valve when you pull a hydraulic filter. Expect to almost empty the transmission case. Have clean buckets handy and you can reuse the fluid. Work fast. Huge sloppy mess. Not applicable to engine oil.

Hi as mentioned above I remove the side panel 4 bolts and unplug the headlights. I also use the channelock filter pliers, they don't damage the old filter and I use a pair of rubber gloves so it makes clean up a lot easier. When you have the side panels off you can look for any leaks and also get aquainted with the different parts of the motor. Hope this was of some help good luck.

Pops, I took a filter to Napa and matched it up. There were several different
"smaller" filter sizes. I also bought one for the Kawasaki filter on my zero turn which is smaller yet.

I also have several straps sizes as well as the pliers type, each works well if it fits in the area around the filter, but I remember on my old BX25, the cup worked best there.

I spent two years changing oil 30 hours a week. I had band wrenches, filter sockets, available and every day for 95% of oil changes I preferred a tool similar to what Hodge posted. We called it the claw, two C shaped jaws that tighten when turned counterclockwise. The tightening action gives it enough grip that I only once came across a filter it wouldn't remove and in that case the filter stud came out with the filter.
