This is an excellent reminder that cheap oil filters can contribute to problems. Cheap oil filters often use stiff, ineffective back-flow designs.
One more thing to keep in mind.... when this happens, it's oil from the dirty side of the element returning to the pan.

The filter is a Kubota filter.

The tractor will sit without being started for a month or two when I noticed this.

On kubota engines they have an anti drain back check ball in the system, but the older the engine the easier for that system to leak down.
So a quick run then let it settle for a min, they check oil to make sure it's up to level is a good choice. :D

Is that check ball system something that can be repaired? What would Kubota call it in the illustrated parts list?

Sadly probably not without extensive work, the seat is aluminum and prone to wear after a long time.

It's really not necessary to worry about, because the oil system moves oil to all points that could be harmed extremely fast, hence why you don't have a bearing issue. ;)

Wolf, … what label does that illustration give to identity that part you highlighted? (Are you certain that's an anti-drain-back? … or is that a pressure-relief instead?)
