I don't even know from whence this leak comes?! I suppose it's from the rubber-looking collar on the driveshaft just as it passes between the lower oil pans? Is this a split-the-tractor sort of repair or am I hopefully barking up the wrong tree?

Just a guess L3800DT?

It's either the front pinion shaft seal or it's the rear 4WD case seal, both easy fixes on that model.

Oh crud, I meant to include that detail. Great job identifying though...yep, it's an L3800. I couldn't find any reference to either of those issues but I'm glad to hear it's not a long, drawn-out tractor splitter sort of a solution. Is that right?

Here is the parts breakdown:

My bet is just the back seal is leaking.

You just remove one bolt on the front shaft cover, and one roll pin in the back cover,. slide the two halves together to see the couplings., then remove the roll pins in the couplers and slide the couplings and remove the shaft.

Front diff seal is #60:

Rear front wheel drive shaft seal is #110

Thanks for the parts diagram, NIW. That's extremely helpful. I'll confirm whether or not the leak is originating from the front or the back and see if some more pics are in order. Sounds like a good task to learn anew.
