Finally it is here! Purchased a L185 from a friend, includes a 72 inch pull behind king cutter finish mower. Like anything 30 years old, it needs some loving care, but is in good shape mechanically, and has good rubber all around. Tins need paint awfully bad, but that will come later. Have manuals ordered. Pictures to follow soon. :D

I got my L185 almost a year ago. Still amazed at the power such a little tractor has.

My first diesel, I have found that the tips and videos by Service Dept VIC were a Godsend.

I hope you have as much fun with yours as I have had with mine.

I hope it turns out to be a good tractor. I have the operator and parts manual ordered for it, and plan on changing / servicing all of the fluids and filters. Yesterday I checked the antifreeze - the radiator looked good on the inside, but the filler neck is messed up wear the cap goes on. I think I may just take the radiator off and have it cooked out and the neck replaced, to be safe.

Thanks!

Today I ordered a battery tray / battery hold down, and a front bumper. Their is not much left of the battery tray (rust and corrosion), and the bumper is bent / been welded on beyond repair. I am soaking the bolts, but what is a good trick to getting out rusty bolts? Plan on using lots of never-sieze on reassembly.
If anyone is interested, here is where I ordered my parts from:

I like using the impact air tool for those difficult nut's/bolts....the kind they use to take your tires on/off with.....of course, that's when the tool will fit in where I'm trying to work.

Got the parts I ordered. Very fast service. Went to local Kubota dealer and ordered a new seat, and a ROP kit. I will take pictures as I get work completed. Right now I am getting my mowers ready for mowing season and have some outside work to do, if the weather cooperates. In the mean time I am soaking the rusty bolts - thanks for advice on air impact.

Been getting some work done -will have more pics soon. I have a question. The front tires are angled like this = \ /.
I'm sure they should be this way = | |.
Now my question - I plan on adjusting the tie rod to straighten them out. Is this the correct thing to do, or are they angled out for a reason??
(every thing on the front end is tight, nothing wore out that I can see, tractor is 2 wheel drive)

Sweet ride.
Are you going to source turf tires?
You can rig up a battery tray real easy.
Not sure about the lean on your tires.
More pics!

A few pictures of my repair work:

I don't know when the coolant was changed last, but I do know that the previous owner had not changed it for several years.

This pic shows how good the coolant looked. I drained both the radiator and the block, and refilled with 50/50 mix. I had the radiator cooked out and the filler neck replaced.

This is the bottom radiator hose ( replaced both top and bottom hoses). What is this in the hose? I took a guess and figured it is some type of hook up for a temp read out. Since it wasn't being used ( found no plug in for it) I did not put it back in the new hose.

I also had the altenator check while I had it tore down this far. Of course it was bad too. New Kubota altenators were like $235.00 (ouch!). The man at the altenator shop sourced me a new one using the Kubota numbers for $89.00. It is the same altenator, however the physical demensions were bigger, and I had to do a bit of modification to make it work, but work it does!
Parts man just called and he has my ROPS ordered also.
I mowed with it yesterday, it runs really good, and mowed just fine. The 3 point won't stay up without using the adjustable stop block, but with it in place it holds just fine.
Next on list is to chage engine oil, fuel filter, and trany fluid and screen.
I just want to say thanks to whoever runs this web site, it really helps to have sources for info that is needed.
