Not real interested in what oil you use! Just curious if any of you guys use any additives in your oil. I've used Lucas heavy duty oil stabiliser in my truck for years. I'm only on my 3rd oil change on the Bota ( done last weekend) & got to wondering. It was a great place to teach my son how to change oil, not restrictive like his mother's small car for viewing space.

No oil additives. Plenty of fuel additives. Lucas fuel additive really quiets my Cummins down and Stanadyne is used in everything for lubricity and anti-gelling.

I use fuel additives too, I just wondered about the oil additives & other folks. Since I've been using Mobil 1 in my vehicles I haven't used oil additives.

I ran Lucas oil stabilizer in my Dodge diesel once, but I started to get valve chatter shortly after adding it. I changed the oil, and it went away. So, that was the last additive that I used in any of my diesels. Just straight oil.
That would be 5 diesels- Dodge truck, VW Jetta, Kubota, NH tractor, and Bobcat skidsteer.

The EPA has reduced the amount of ZINK in the oil so the automakers will warrant catalytic converters longer.
The highest point of stress in an engine is where a NON ROLLER TAPPET rides on a camshaft.
Such engines are likely to suffer camshaft or tappet problems in that area and in automotive use the magic year seems to be 1996.
I don't know if Kubota engines have roller or flat tappets.
Shell Rotella, I don't know what type, supposably has the highest level of zink but it's also been reduced.
You can get ZINK additives for "racing" (off road use) and for "pre 1996" classic cars.
I also own a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD (common rail diesel) that has problems with the cam roller shafts when the Chrysler spec'd oil is used. Most CRD owners have owned previous diesel vehicles and spotted the wrong oil being speced and used a diesel spec'd oil.
Here's one of many links about oil.

I use the ZDDP product sold on e-bay for all my small off road engines. Be aware this product is one that "more is not better", use the recommended amount.

Don't know if I count or not, having apprenticed in the 'older days', but all the Masters I worked with swore to a man that you didn't need to play chemist with the engine oil. Only time you were ever supposed to use an additive is if you're flushing the engine.

Once, I thought I knew better than these guys and used an additive in my gutless 6-banger Javelin because the lifters were noisy. Well, it cured it, all right - they all collapsed and I had to replace the entire set!
