No more wix filters for me. Lesson learned.

At my 50 hour service, I decided to save a few bucks and use a "compatible" Wix hydraulic filter for my BX2670. About 3 hours into the filter, I blew the filter seal and dumped all my hydraulic fluid on the lawn. Kubota service came out to repair it because I thought I had blown a line or something. They "highly" recommended the Kubota OEM filters for this reason. They also explained that the threading is slightly different on the Wix and they see this time and time again.

Hmmm... interesting. I had heard that WIX makes some of the best filters out there since some of the other name brands have been lowered quality due to bye-outs. Any CAT filters that interchange? Donaldson makes CAT filters so maybe some crossovers there for quality filters.

You sure the Wix filter you used was the correct replacement for the Kubota filter? There is so many different filter sizes that there are many that are almost the same but not quite right and it is easy to get one that will fit on but is not right. Wix makes good quality filters and I have heard that they make OEM filters for some companies.

Hmmm... I just checked the Wix cross reference for Kubota PN HHK20-36990 and they said it was a valid competitive filter but they don't have a replacement for it. I used Wix number 57088 after reading a compatibility list on Amazon. Again... lesson learned.

Item description and compatibility lists are not 100% reliable on Amazon. I have found this to be true on numerous occasions. With Amazon, I always try to find another source to verify the fit and description. Just my experience with them.

Just type the oem filter number in the filter search and it will give you the wix equivalent

I use Baldwin filters at work. But if I run out before my vendor can get me more, then it's wix or napa. Wix makes the napa filters. If you have the wix number which is six numbers, the last 4 numbers are the napa filter number

Years ago at the quarry I worked at we tried wix filters. Nothing but problems from them, mostly with bad seals. It wasn't just oil filters either. We had problems with oil, hyd, fuel and air.

My personal opinion, I wouldn't use a wix filter even if it was free.

Yea can't trust Amazon there's to many airheads on there. the only current filters wix makes for the bx is the engine oil filter and fuel filter and only one of those I would trust of those 2 is the engine oil filter. the wix fuel filter has some kind of screen in it instead of a pleated filter like the kubota filters.

Ditto.. I stopped using their oil filters on engines due to the drain back valve sealing in the filter being ineffective.. resulting in dry bearing knock at start up due to no oil getting to the main bearings until after the filter refilled with oil.

Careful on your statements, about the only filters That Donaldson "Might" produce and have rebranded for Cat would be some air filters or some cartridge filters for older equipment but Cat has pretty much taken control of all their own filter mfging for quite a few years now.

Just my opinion, but Cat filters make a difference.

I got my 980G new and from day one it had nothing but Cat filters. 11 years and 28,000 hrs later I was given a new 980H. The G model was completely stock other than it had a upgraded turbo installed when it was a year or so old. Everything on the drive train and hyd system was stock and problem free when I came off the machine.

Again, just my opinion but quality filters, lubricants and a strict PM schedule is the life of any machine.

I work in the mining industry as a former heavy diesel tech now shop foreman and follow filter technology fairly close.
Every mfg has a better filter than the other but when it comes to OEM protection Cat has a good handle on things especially for their fuel and hydraulic and trans filters. Baldwin has good fuel filters, Donaldson has probably the best air and bypass oil filters, Fleet guard has excellent fuel filters too. One needs to read deep into the specifications of each individual filter for specific applications to fully understand things. It gets deep fast.

I've had issues with fleet guard filters. Got 2 cases in with the correct filter number. Wrong threads. Then a case of half and half over sized and correct threads. All the same part number Then started having issues with the gaskets on the oil filters not sealing correctly. Realized the difference pretty fast. The ones labeled made in the USA were spot on. The ones labeled made in Mexico were horrible. Switched to Baldwin after that. Still occasionally get wix and napa filters in a pinch and haven't had any issues.

I stand by my statement. My son is a certified CAT mechanic at Altorfers and trained at the CAT sponsored facility in Peoria. His instructors work will all the latest and experimental CAT equipment directly pulled from the factory assembly lines. I going to assume they wouldn't lie to the students.

If your son went to college for diesel technology and is Cat trained you have given him a huge slap in the face by calling him a "Mechanic".

I have never worked for a Cat dealership but have been to numerous certified Cat training courses over the years and they do have a good training program for "Technicians".
