Would like to say Hello to everyone. My site name is slacker2. My friends call me slacker because I work @ my Body shop in Vt. 14 hours a day.Funny I guess.
I purchased a new 2010 L4240 HSTw/LA854 loader this sumer and haven't stopped smiling, so my wife says.
Just mounted a 7.5 ft fisher plow on it. Made a plate to the plow the same as the
Kubota quick hitch. We just got 8 inches of snow today and need I say more.

Has anyone shimmed their hydraulic pump for more lift? They tell me it can be done as long as you offset the weight in the rear?

Welcome to OTT!
Don't know much about shimming the hydraulic pump - I could see where it could create some problems if not done correctly.

This is a little on the extreme side of doing about what you are trying to do but I'll share it with you anyway. We had a WA 600 Komatsu loader where I formerly worked. It was supposed to carry a 7 yd bucket. Management felt like it would do more with a bigger bucket on it. They bought a 8 1/4 yd and installed it. Now it was weak from lack of hyd power and couldn't keep the rear tires on the ground. Installed a 4 stage pump, extra counter weight, filled the rear tires with antifreeze/water mix and turned the fuel up to get enough RPM's to drive the pump. Long story short. I operated this machine for over a year and had to baby it to keep from overheating the hyd oil as well as not to let it destroy itself.

I changed positions and went to the yard loader and was replaced with a idiot. Here comes the destruction. This so called operator ended up breaking the center out of the boom and bent the lift arms. That was $25,000 to fix. Ripped the bottom out of the bucket, another $45,000 for a new Hensley bucket. Twisted the drive line out, $1200 for ea U-joint and then broke the rear end. $35,000 to replace with a used one. Now after spending that much on repairs it only lasted about 2 more weeks before it slung a rod thru the block. It was going to cost $90,000 for a reman engine (installed) and the mechanic found a crack in the frame.

This machine only had 14,000 hrs on it. The scrap yard gave them $.05 cents a pound for it - the new bucket and boom. Komatsu gave us credit on the labor cost and applied it to a new loader which cost $550,000. In my opinion that's a hefty price to pay just to get a little extra power from a hyd pump and making a machine do more than it's designed to do.
