Hi all. I'm new to the forum and new to tractor ownership. I figured I should join up after leveraging this site quite a bit during the research phase of tractor shopping. A lot of knowledge on this forum and I'll do my best to try and pay back to others what I've learned from this site already.

After months of research and agony over what to do, I finally pulled the trigger on a new L3301 HST last weekend. Its 4x4 with a LA525 loader. I also picked up a 5' Land Pride Shredder, and a 5' Armstrong Box Blade to get me started. Although I've rented and driven a few tractors of the years, this is my first to own.

So far, I've put a whopping 1.2 hours on it, but that's only because of the weather down here in the Gulf Coast region of Texas. As it starts to dry out, which it always does, I'll be spending more time in the seat of this tractor than I will my truck.

The HST whining noise certainly caught me off guard, but after learning its pretty common with HST transmissions, I'm over it now. I also had a little trouble with disconnecting the shredder (first time tractor owner), but finally figured it out. Other than, that I couldn't be happier and can't wait to start working on the honey-do list.

the whining is a sore spot !;)It will get better if/when you change your oil to a S-udt2 synthetic oil at about 200 hours. I find that the whine is less at a certain RPM , up in the range makes it seem better - could just be the engine noise drowning out the sound too.:D:)

Congratulations on your new tractor, my HSTs got quieter with use and more than make up for the noise in ease of operation.

I've noticed the whine is worse at certain RPMs and better at others. Depending on what gear I am in, that seems to have an impact as well.

Thanks all for the welcoming comments. Looking forward to wearing this thing out, if that's possible....LOL

Welcome from another SE Texan (Beaumont area)!! Yes, the weather has been less than desirable as of late for sure. My old friend of the farm is about a 15 yr old L3010. She has been as reliable as anything I own, and is still quite capable. I think you got a real jewel right there!! Picked up a MX5100 this year as a bigger brother and MAN do I love the HST as compared to the shuttle shift on the old girl. Oh, and these guys around here are REALLY, REALLY smart if you have problems!!

yes, i have an idle lever, much like you do. i am able to shut the machine off at 2000 RPM if i wanted to. my question is, is there to high of an RPM to have it at when starting up? no i don't shut mine off at 2000 RPM i usually throttle down to about 1500 to 1400ish. is that to high at first start in the morning?
