Got me about an acre of new ground just about cleaned off. About 2
more days (if it'll quit raining) and I should have the brush cleaned off.
No big stuff, biggest stumps won't be over 3 inches in diameter. Gonna
disc it up and plant it for a deer food plot. My question is, I need some
suggestions for a good spring food plot mixture.
Thanks,
Dano

If you really want to drive them crazy plant some soybeans. Every deer in the area will be eating at you place.

A friend of mine used to plant blackeyed peas, purple peas and corn for his deer. They ate it but I don't know if it beat soybeans or not.

Way back when we grew beans for a living we would loose several acres to deer every year. They were always nice and fat come hunting season.

They don't grow well in shade. That's why I was wondering about a
mix. Soybeans are a definite part of a mix though. Deer, hogs and
turkeys love 'em. Any suggestions for the shade side of the mix?
Thanks,

Put fescue and clover around the outside of the acre and the beans in the middle. The grass will help to keep weeds from taking over and the deer will eat it to.

Sounds good. Might try that. The fescue would help hold the soil. This
plots on a hillside.

Remember those as re-runs. We didn't have TV until I was 9.
Heck, we didn't have running water until then either. I grew up
on the old radio shows. The Shadow, Johnny Dollar, Phillip Marlow,
Gun Smoke and more. Had a color TV in my head long before we
got a Black and White one in the home :) I'll be 64 in May. Been
rode hard and put up wet more times than I can remember. Plowed,
made hay and skidded paperwood/logs with a team of Mules.
I was in Vietnam when Dad broke down and bought a tractor. Never
drove one until I bought my Kubota L3400. I do love this tractor.
