I recently went from a BX to a MX tractor due to my needs of use. my BX had a MM mower and a loader. that was my mowing/work tool, but after using it realized i needed more power. now that i have the MX, im without a mower. the original plan was to get a 3 point finishing mower, but now im leaning toward a zero turn, because that's what people are suggesting. my yard is fairly open, 2.5 acres, with not to many obstacles. i did barrow a buddies 3 point finisher, before winter hit, and it wasn't bad. im able to maneuver. im trying to cut down on how many "toys" i have to keep around and maintain. i know the tractor isn't the best solution, but its a tool i can use year round and does everything i could need it to do. is a MX4800 to big to be mowing with? should i just suck it up and buy dedicated machine for mowing? im going back and forth on the issue and have read many forums on the issue. any thoughts?

It's not to big as long as you don't have a ton of objects to mow around or any odd shapes to cut around. If you can make it work for you do it. No reason to spend money if you don't need to only you know if you can make it work.

Obviously the zero will be the best mower, it's purpose is cutting grass. My self I use a rear finish mower and have been for 20 or so years now. Yeah I would love a zero but I just can't justify the $$$ for a lawn mower.

If you go with a finish mower check the blade tip speed. I would suggest 15k or higher. I have a Bushhog brand and have been very satisfied with it.

If I saw the correct specs, your tractor weighs about 300-400# more than mine with the homebrew cab and has about a 9" longer wheelbase. Without operating your tractor, I can't say how much difference that makes. I love mine for mowing with a 6' Landpride RFM. My BIL has a cabbed 40-some HP Grand L and if I were to suddenly have a rich uncle pass on I'd be looking for a bigger tractor with factory A/C and a 7' RFM.

The L3200 is big enough to get the job done. Heck, the B7500 I had with a 5' RFM was big enough, although there were times a few extra horses or more FEL capacity would have been useful. The extra 7 HP, another foot of mower width, larger FEL, much better seat and the 3-range hydro make the L3200 a lot more useful and comfortable to operate than the B7500 was.

Having yet another 10 horsepower, A/C and a 7' mower would be a great way to spend my golden years:D

when im older I will probably get something with a cab. im still fairly young, though I don't feel like it, so I plan on keeping and using mine for a long time. that's one reason why I upgraded my tractor from a bx to a mx. big jump, I know, but the power has already came in handy.

do you ever worry about tearing up you yard at all?
My yard is in between me and where the work takes place. I cross it with everything from tractors to bulldozers. My front yard is where my loading area is for cows so it has trailers in it all the time. I've been kicking the idea around about fencing the bulk of the yard so I can turn cows in on it and let them eat instead of mowing.

About the only damage I worry about is making ruts that lead to erosion. Other than that, having tracks in the yard doesn't bother me at all.
