I have been babying my clutch for a few years now. It always grabbed good just would grind a little when I put it in gear. Got worse the hotter the tractor got. Couple days ago went to put hay out and turned a corner and it quit moving. Sounds like a gear stripped. I can push the clutch in and all noise stops. Tractor does try to move when in gear with clutch out. All gears seem to work and in 4 wheel drive does not change anything.
Hoping it is the pressure plate when I get it broke down. My question is what type of clutch is better. Standard style or ones that have pads on the disc? OEM better than the aftermarket stuff? Any advice on splitting tractor that could help? Thanks for input.

You don't really get a choice on the style, they only make one that I know of.

Those models are know for stripping out the center splines on the clutch disks.
I think they have made some inprovement in the center hub material on newer disks.

OEM always on something like this! ;)

No doubt on the OEM only. I put a cheapie in my MF 1140 and guess what? Junk already...and it's NO FUN to split it either. I'd just as soon do 5 MX5000's....

Does the said MX5000 have a loader on it?
