Been using a Kubota L3901, non HST. There's a lever for Forward or Reverse direction with a neutral position called a Synchro-Shuttle Shift Lever. Tractor starts up fine. No warning lights are on.
As soon as the Synchro-Shuttle Shift Lever leaves neutral the engine dies.

Where should i even begin to look for the underlaying problem?

Wow, i would not have guessed that.
Went and "fixed" the seat switch just now... And the tractor is back to normal.

Thanks a ton for the insight fellas.
And thanks for that link too,

Another member here notified that he suspected the manual in the link is for the L01 series sold in markets other the then United States and there is diffences between the models (one notable difference was the seat safety switch that isn’t used in other markets. ). I went and looked, did not see mention of a seat switch in that manual.

Sorry for posting it without knowing, and be advised there may be other differences in the manual.

Thanks to Dave for bringing attention to it!
