Did a search before this post but did not find anything related to my Zerk problem. My 60 inch MMM has plastic anti-scalp/bogie wheels with "pressed in" grease fittings and everytime I try to grease them the Zerks pull out when I try to remove the grease gun hose. Doesn't make any sense to push them back in when they will just pull out the next time I attempt to grease so anyone else have this problem and if so how did you solve it? I considered trying to screw in some threaded replacements but thought I would pole the Fourm first. Thanks

Yepper I have the same problem,, I went to the dealer and the first thing the counter guy says is,,, you have a real good grease gun huh,, well duhhh yeah why,, he says cause if the clip is to tight the zerks will pull out when you pull the nozzle off,, yep they sure did. I tryed to screw some new ones in but alas they did no better than the pressed in one's,, So in my kind sweet redneck way I went back discussed it with the owner of the shop and came out with 4 new wheels. But now I take the axel out grease the snot out of them and putem back on,,, the new ones didnt hold up any better,, even the counter guy said it was a pi$$ poor set up..

Out of all the lawmowers I've ever owned in all my years of landscape maintenance I've never put grease in the ainti scalp rollers. Mainly because I never cut low enough to where they are constantly on the ground. I never mow any of my lawns any less then two and a half inches in height. Therefore my rollers never really hit anything but the ocassional bump or tree root. Even then its really not a issue for me beacue the Toro walkbeind I mow with has a floating cutting deck. The deck just bends and flexes with the contours of the ground.

Like Eric, I don't even bother greasing mine. I don't even think my 2003 BX2200 had zerks and it hasn't worn anything out yet.

I'm not saying don't do it, just that I am not. Our 2660 is four years old and gets used a lot; no problems. If I have to buy new wheels I will.

Skeets, Thats pretty much the same response I received from my dealer except I have a "cheap" grease gun. They told me to unscrew the fitting on the end of the grease gun hose a couple turns which was supposed to loosen the grip on the zerk. Didn't help! I'm kind of inclined to agree with Eric and tripleR, grease up the shaft good and if they wear out replace them if necessary.

Still bothers me that for a company that makes tractors to last a lifetime they would have such a poor design on such minor parts.

They are really like a nonwearing item, most scalp wheels are made of plastic anyway. And like I said my rollers never really hit the ground that often to get worn out.
