Hi All I have an old L185 and the engine petcock has a drip.
I have rotated it open and closed but still a small leak.
Any suggestions besides filling the hole with putty.
Not sure if it is a special Japanese pipe thread in the block and if it is easily removable. or if a part is available? Been in there 41 years.
Only been opened and closed less than 50 times??
Thanks David

Thanks Dave How can that be changed without draining engine block?
Seems removing it would.
How tight do you imagine it is in there.
My thoughts I have to disassemble it to get socket on it and worry about even getting it out. Been in there 41 years.
Thanks David

The shade tree fix would be, try to remove it. If it breaks, plug it with JB weld and in the future, drain it at the lower radiator hose. For 16 bucks, I would have a new one on hand in case it does come loose.

If the rad cap is left on, as fluid tries to leave the block via the drain cock, a vacuum is created. This vacuum will hold back the coolant leaving the block. A small amount will come out but if you are ready with the new one to screw in the loss will be negligible.

The original cock will be brass and not frozen in place with rust.

If you are going to disassemble before removal, have some plumbers putty on hand to plug the old valve body as you unscrew it.

I would first try with a wrench.
