According to my owners manual for my B7100, they reccomend a 60 inch midmount mower and a 48 inch rear mount maximum width

I think the biggest issue you will encounter is PTO speed. Front mounts run off the crankshaft, mid PTOs run at 2000 rpm. The rear PTO is 540, possibly with 2-3 speeds, at 750 & 1000. If you are handy, you might be able to get something together with big pulleys. If you are buying driveshafts, housings and gearboxes, you may end up near the price of a 48" bush hog or finish mower.
Most of the time you spend a couple of days cobbling something together, and end up with something that looks cobbled together, that you would not want yours or your neighbor's kids to be around.

Yeah, what he said above.

Besides, once you go to a quality rear discharge.........you'll soon realize that a side discharge deck is purely a POS.

Is the mid mower worth buying all the mounting brackets or making some or is the rear finish mower better in the long run.

They both have their pros and cons matter of preference. I had a 60" on the rear of a MF and I just bought a MM for my BX2200. I haven't tried it yet but I think I'll like it just fine for better handling around the yard. I'm still keeping my eye out for a rear mount also. Can't have to many toys.

This is a question where the answer is different for everyone. To me the biggest thing is I use my tractor for everything. It may be a lawn mower this morning and then get switched over to spread dirt, pull a disc, move hay and the list goes on and on. A 3pt mower is the only thing for me just because it's so easy to swap to another implement. It's a matter of what works better for you.
