Hello all, has anyone had experience with the power steering on the M series stop working when you have weight on the FEL? I had today 400kg on the front forks and the steering was very hard to turn, put the load down and it's all OK again. This can't be right surely?

Were you sitting still or moving?

Sitting still it could be that the tires were biting in enough that it wouldn't turn good.

If you were rolling that doesn't sound right.

Thanks Bulldog, to answer your question I was still when it first happened and like you thought there was too much weight on the stationary wheels, I moved forwards hoping that it would help but it didn't. It only got better when I took the load off. I even tried increasing the revs but that didn't help either. I'd like to know what it is in case it goes for good one day when I really need it!!!

That model has hydrostatic steering, if the loader was working fine then the steering controller should be getting the proper pressure and flow.

Where you able to turn the steering wheel yet the wheels on the tractor wouldn't turn, and yes it could still have even really good resistance in doing that? That would be a blown seal.

Or did the steering wheel come to a stop and not budge at all? That would be a controller or hydraulic feed issue.

Most if not all the times I've heard of this is because the Cylinder that steers the tractor has a blow center seal, no you won't see a fluid leak, as it just leaks fluid back to the other line and back to the tank.

Yes it could also be a mechanical issue, like a worn or dry bearing on the axle pivots.

Thank you all for your replies, I have only had the tractor 6 months and in that time only done about 10 hours(I bought it to help with an extension at my home). I got it from a dealer and I was told they'd serviced it so I assumed the filters had been done. I'll do them now anyway and grease the front axle pivot points. Wolfman, in answer to your question the steering wheel was very hard to turn but it was moving the wheels.

Thanks for all your help, I'll give her a good servicing and then feedback after that.

Run it by the dealer too, since you bought it from them fairly recently.
