I heard a whine coming from transmission today so investigated. Checked dipstick above pto in rear and was full. Wanted to see fluid so crawled under tractor and took out drain plug located about 12" toward back of tractor from the 2 oil drain plugs just in front of pan. Nothing came out. Used a screwdrive to check for sludge or any blockage and there is none. Hydrolics work fine. Why would trany not have fluid, or is there another fill for the trany. Thank you

Suspect you have remove the drain plug under the clutch assembly which is just to get rid of water.

Not having any fluid come out is a great sign.

Do you have Owner's manual which would make that clear?.

you can download a free WSM here but it is less clear about routine maintenance than an Owner's manual would be.

I have found a Owner's manual supplement explaining the clutch housing drain.

Additionally, the whine could very well be a mis-adjusted draft sensing rod (if you have draft control on it that is). The rod attaches to the upper center 3 point forging (where the top link goes). It has 2 or 3 holes in it and moves slightly so the draft sensing rod can modulate the internal valve.

If there is no play in the assembly (the rod has no movement), the hydraulic pump will occasionally deadhead. The rod and linkage assembly needs 1/16" to 1/8" free play in it before the bottom of the top forging contacts the stop block, which is bolted to the front cover of the PTO casting housing.

Most people never use the draft sensing at all but it's there because the tractor is designed as an ag tractor.

If you never use the draft control, keep the lever set in the deepest position all the time (lever at the bottom of the quadrant).
