Howdy, I left my 5400 outside with a broken shifter boot, not knowing any better... The hydraulics stopped working though the steering was still working. I changed the fluid and filters, the fluid was like a very washed out chocolate milk, lots of water in it. After changing the the fluid and filters the FEL and three point are still not operating and lost the steering too. My question is, what goes first when the system is run with water in it? The pump? Would it make sense to disconnect one of the connections at the pump and try priming it with fluid as I ve read other people do?

Run it again and keep turning the steering wheel back and forth, that should prime the pump.
You can also try running the loader valve and three point at the same time.

If none of that works then look at the suction line for wet spots as it would sound like you have a suction leak.
