I have a M4030su and my pto clutch will not disengage it. When I shift on it grinds. For the past 2 years I have mowed with it by engaging Pto then starting tractor. I do not have a book on the tractor but assume the lever left of the shifter is for the Pto clutch. I would appreciate any info y'all may have. Thanks

The PTO clutch is in the same pack as the clutch for the movement of the tractor, it's a dual stage clutch.
You push the clutch pedal 1/2 way down for disengaging the clutch for the drive and all the way down to disengage the clutch for the PTO.
If you haven't used it in a while or it sat for too long, it might be rusted and seized up, and either will require you to break it loose or have it rebuilt.
The lever is only an engagement lever you have to release it with the clutch pedal in order to engage it without it grinding. ;)
