I own an M105X farm tractor. I use this tractor all winter to plow a mile long driveway. Recently, I was using the three point snow blower and the tractor powered down during operation. I was running at a PTO speed of 540, approximately 2200-2400 RPM under a load. I immediately drained the fuel bowl and re primed the system. The tractoer ran well for about 15 minutes at the above rpm before powering down again. By powering down, I mean that I had to back off of the throttle and feather it just to keep it running.

After this, I returned to the bay and changed the fuel filter. I primed the system and fueled the tractor with a 50/50 mix diesel fuel. The tractor ran well for about 30 minutes then powered down again. I am struggling to figure out the problem at this point. Any ideas?
On a side note, I have noticed that the fuel bowl only runs about half full. Should it run full? If so what is causing it to only run half full?

Is the shut off vavle between the fuel tank and the fuel bowl not open up all the way? It sounds to me that if your fule bowl is only geting half full then theres either a blockage between the tank to the bowl or the shut off valve is not open all the way up. Check the bottom of the fuel tank and see if theres some kinda debris blocking the fuel line.

The fuel bowl should be full of fuel. In one of Vic's videos he talks about an air lock in the top half of the bowl and how to prevent it and then bleed the system. Sounds like air is in the fuel system or getting into the system when the motor is running. Check all the hoses, pipes and O rings for any way air might be getting in.

You might want to try removing the fuel cap from the fuel tank to see if the bowl will fill then.

I'm thinking that if the tank does not get enough air to replace fuel leaving, you may not get enough fuel out to fill the bowl.

Just my 2 cents... Dan

my 9540 did what you are describing.there was a piece of metal kind of like a check valve or flap of some kind, the piece of metal was not quiet big as dime.the piece was round and it was flat on one side(maybe where it was attached?).the piece broke off of the top of the housing where the fuel seperator screws on.if i am not mistaken it towards the back of the housing closest to engine.

I was wondering about the 50/50 mix myself SDV.

Not sure on the 105 but my 9000 the clear bowl is the secondary filter. Have you changed the primary filter?

If so have you checked the vent lines for the tank to make sure they are open and venting the tank properly?

I came up with a solution after considering all of the responses that I received. Turns out to be moisture in the fuel. Even with a name brand additive and 50/50 fuel blend, at 8,000 feet in elevation and well below zero conditions, the moisture was icing up the lines and the new filter. The fix was easier than I thought.
