The last couple of times I have mowed when I disengage the PTO and get out the engine shuts off as if the PTO is still engaged. It won't restart until I let it cool and operate the PTO lever on and off then restart.

Switch looks like it might be impossible to access with the cab on but I haven't gotten under it to verify. The WSM shows the switch right on top of the transmission.

Anybody run into this an have any tips to access the switch?

That's not a switch, it's a hydraulic valve the likelihood of it being "bad" is highly unlikely.
Could be that the linkage needs adjusted or that you have debris that's not allowing to disengage.

If it's under warranty then I would get the dealer to look at it.
FYI: That's a $1400 valve, not something that you want to randomly mess with.

The manual says it's a switch.

The PTO engages and disengages fine. The safety switch isn't closing when I disengage the PTO so it thinks it's still engaged when I get out of the seat. Engine shuts off and won't restart. After it cools off the switch will close again and I can restart and resume operation.

I looked again and I can get eyes on it from the back. I probably won't be able to get my hands on it without removing the mower deck at which point I also won't be able to duplicate the problem for testing. I might can reach it from the rear if I remove the quick hitch so I can try that first.

The tractor is out of the basic warranty and this is a condition the dealer wouldn't take the time to duplicate. It only shows up after mowing for an hour or two.

It only takes 30 minutes or so sitting and it's cooled off enough to restart. There is no indication of the engine or trans overheating. I replaced the trans fluid and filters with OEM parts and fluid 50 hours ago and it is full so I don't suspect any problems there.

Ok that's not what I interpreted from your first message.

The last couple of times I have mowed when I disengage the PTO and get out the engine shuts off as if the PTO is still engaged.
I guess I took this to mean that the pto was still engaged (spinning) and not just an indicator (light) that it was engaged.
