Went out today (55F) to plow the Slush from the driveway, and when dumping a load of slush/ice I notist green snow!
looked under tractor and anyifreeze was pouring out, popped hood and found a large leak at bottom radiator hose, when I grabed hose it came completly of of the pipe on bottom of radiator.
(Lost all of the coolent)
Has anyone had this happen to them?
Ckd hose and radiator for why this happed but all looked good!
Put hose back on and filled with coolent, run engine until warm and found no leaks.
My question is wy did this happen hose clamp was tight on hose.

I recently changed the water pump on a 26 year old, 1200+ hour tractor. The lower radiator hose was disintegrating but not leaking (yet) at the clamp attaching it to the radiator. It would only have been a short time time before a catastrophic failure.

The hose on mine burst. Just old age. I remember vaguely that the service instructions from Kubota require all water hoses to be replaced every few years (which I do not do).

The most logical explanation is that the hose clamp was not tight. When heating up there is pressure in the system. Depending on the hose diameter the forces pulling off the hose can be quite substantial.

p.s.: I do not want to alarm you but a faulty head gasket or crack in the head can also lead to high pressure building up in the cooling system. A simple CO2 test will tell you if there is a problem there.

What make/model tractor?
(Some makes/models equip’t are made in places the rubber ain’t what it’s supposed to be)

I recently changed the coolant inmy ‘96-era Kubota M4700 … and considered replacing all the hoses… ‘
I’d have to order them to get the OEM hoses….and I wondered what the shelf-life might be on hoses likely last made in the late ‘90s….. inspected my existing hoses and found them in good shape and still pliable …. decided I had other more-pressing matters the wife suggested….

Thank you!
I ckd the hose and it was pliable and the clamp seemed tight on the hose, (could not slide it or turn it).
Tractor has been running fine and runs fine now, used it to finish moving snow and slush after it was all put back togeather!
All is well that ends well I guess!

I’ve seen a few clamps over the years that (from the factory) weren’t clamped down fully on the proper side of the barb fitting and worked themselves loose eventually.
Can you tell from the ‘imprint’ of the clamp, if it was far enough to the end of the hose for the barb to work right?

My factory new L3901 leaked oil from one oil cooler hose. I repositioned the clamp and its never leaked again. Who knows and I havent lost a wink of sleep worrying.

When you park the tractor (if kept inside) put a piece of cardboard under the area to better determine if anything has a slow leak.
