I have a Kubota L2550 gst older tractor, have lost the top 4 gears, replaced the filters and hydraulic oil. Pulls good in bottom gears, power steering works good. any one have any ideas where to go now?

Could be a linkage issue - maybe simple, maybe not. The selector lever operates the hydraulic GST shifting mechanism inside the transmission's left side cover. One of its valve blocks controls the hi-lo gear shifter. Yours is apparently not shifting it into the high range when the selector lever goes to the higher gears. The selector lever operates a 2-cable push-pull assembly that could be the issue. There is a related OTT discussion here . Good luck. Dick B

Thanks for the reply, I pulled that off the valve body (3 bolts) and moved it to the higher gears and it still does the same thing tries to go but no power.
Like the clutch slipping but works in the lower gears.. ???
thanks again

Without seeing it, I'd say if you've taken away the 2-cable rotator (not a valve body - more of a valve operator) the next step may be to drain the oil and take off the side cover (15 bolts). Toward the back there's a hydraulically operated single shift fork that selects high or low range. The problem could be there (either hydraulic or mechanism). But before you do that, maybe others with relevant experience should chime in. North Idaho Wolfman ?

That will be my next step, I have the sheet metal and left floor pan removed. 12 deg and 30 mph wind and it is outside will be the first of the week now till I work on it. I will check the pressure from the hydro pump first . thanks for the response

If you don't have the WSM get it.
I have been into mine 2 times and rebuilt it completely the last time.
There is 91 O rings inside of mine that makes it all work.

You have lost the Low/High selection
It's a combination of a valve and actuator block
Best you can hope for is a sheared or dislodged roll pin on the shifting fork.
Or a clogged port on the selector valve.

What did it do right before this happened, any noise?

When I would go to the higher gears it would take 5 to 10 sec. to start to move about a week later it quit moving all together. No noise and when I changed the oil the magnetic plug had no metal or anything on it hardly any sludge. Will pull the valve body off and report back with the results, when this weather warms up a little.. thanks for the response.

Got a chance today to do a little better troubleshooting, if I put a load on the tractor it would stop in all gears. My clutch petal had no play, adjusted it tractor moves in all gears now till you put a load on it.. I will be pulling it apart when the weather warms up. Anything I should look for while I am in there except the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and a pilot bearing? Thanks again for all the help

Yea it's just a single stage clutch so pretty easy to set up. ;)

Hey Mountaindan, sorry to jump in here but just looking for a bit of advice. My l2550 GST has similar problems to yours, no power in speed 5 - 8 and even lower gears dont seem to be right. Any hills or obstruction and its struggling. I pressure tested all the valves / gear selection ports etc and pressure is around 25 bar which is good I believe. The main mechanical clutch is fine so Im thinking its the multidisc clutch pack inside the trans. Was that the problem with yours or. Not many of these in Ireland and very hard to get advice on them. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Eire Lad

How did you determine the main mechanical clutch is good?

Main diaphragm spring clutch was replaced not long ago
That still doesn't mean it's not bad.

You need a PTO powered implement, run it and put the tractor in upper gears, and if it slows with the tractor, the main clutch is shot.
